Psoriasis

Post by wahinewithms »

Aloha Folks,

What psoriasis medications work best? Since both MS and psoriasis are auto-immune diseases, I'm also wondering how many of you suffer from both, as I do.
Do interferons seem to make your psoriasis any better or any worse?

Thanks in advance,
Brittany

There are many theories about Psoriasis. I do not have any but my brothers do, one has it severely. They both have used medications but they don't seem to do a very good job. Psoriasis, like MS, is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks itself.

My 2 cents, poor nutrition and stress are likely major contributors. Improve your nutrition (through diet and supplements) and eliminate stress and you may see major improvement. Also, vitamin D supplements should likely be taken as it has also been shown to improve Psoriasis, probably in higher than typical dosages. Vitamin D topical ointments are also thought to help.

Consider taking supplements known to reduce inflammation which would not only be good for your Psoriasis but also for your MS and overall health - there are many such supplements with the most common being Turmeric Curcumin with Bioperine. Higher than normal doses are probably a good idea. There are many, many other totally natural supplements and foods thought to reduce inflammation to consider. A diet high in these makes sense. Eliminate foods thought to aggravate Psoriasis.

An interesting article not from Coimbra but regarding Vitamin D and Psoriasis
Titled "35,000 IU vitamin D daily for 6 months helped ALL psoriasis suffers":

https://vitamindwiki.com/35,000+IU+vita ... is+suffers+(106+ng%29+%E2%80%93+Brazil+March+2013

There is so much evidence as to the effectiveness of Vitamin D on so many Autoimmune diseases, it is certainly worth a try for at least 6 months to see if your psoriasis improves. Minimal cost (very low cost, under $10 per month), easy to buy and take, at 35,000 IU daily (I suggest taking two doses per day, one in the AM, on in the PM, no doctor supervision is required but blood work may be a good idea.. what more could you ask for? If you do try it, please let us know the results.

calcipotriol/calcipotriene. synthetic 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin d3.

trade name used to be dovobet i believe, when mixed with betamethasone dipropionate. no longer available.
now i think it's just dovonex ie calcipotriol/calcipotriene alone.

alternative: loads of time in the sun or under a 290 to 315 nm UVB lamp *with* the right cofactor nutrients on board in adequate supply to support
1. cutaneous synthesis of previtamin d3 followed by
2. hepatic hydroxylation to 25 hydroxyvitamin d3 and then
3. renal hydroxylation to 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin d3

last time my skin was 100% clear, my job had me outside all shift, all summer. years ago now.
that was also *after* doing years of work on underlying nutrient status, which is still an ongoing effort.

i like the light solution better than megadosing. even though i do have high test liquid in the fridge which i use as needed to kick serum levels up a notch.
i let my family know i would like a good UVB lamp for a present. nobody has taken me up on it yet...!
