Whats your favorite phrase?

Post by scorpion »

There are phrases I hear and read over and over again relating to MS research that drive me crazy. I thought, to lighten things up a little, we could all list some of the phrases we have all come to know and love. My personal favorite is :

"HOLDS PROMISE FOR THE TREATMENT OF MS"

Not research, but the neuros love to say:

"We are going to treat this aggressively."

Ditto on Alex's comment. That's what I was going to say. My wife's aunt who has had it since the early 80's says they were saying that back then!

From my Neuro

Mike56's comment brings to mind my meeting with my first neuro after I had suffered three weeks of vertigo.

"This is definitely not neurological."

"Well, you have definite MS, so pick a drug - it doesn't matter which one."
Dx'd with MS & HNPP (hereditary peripheral neuropathy) 7/03 but must have had MS for 30 yrs before that. I've never taken meds for MS except 1 yr experiment on LDN. (I found diet, exercise, sleep, humor, music help me the most.)

One that makes me cringe and want to punch well-meaning people when they say this

"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger"

I'm freakin' strong enough already, thank you

I remembered one reason why the MS med info didn't persuade me to try any of them:

These quotes are copied and pasted directly from official med guides:
--AVONEX® will not cure multiple sclerosis (MS)...
--AVONEX® can cause serious side effects...
--The way AVONEX® works in MS is not known.
--Safety and efficacy of treatment with AVONEX® beyond 3 years is not known.
--Rebif will not cure multiple sclerosis (MS)...
--Rebif can cause serious side effects...
--The way Rebif works in MS is not known.
--The safety and efficacy of treatment with Rebif® beyond 2 years have not been established.
--Betaseron will not cure multiple sclerosis (MS)...
--Betaseron can cause serious side effects...
--The way Betaseron works in MS is not known.
--TYSABRI does not cure MS or Crohn’s disease...
--TYSABRI increases your chance of getting a rare brain infection that usually causes death or severe disability.
--The specific mechanism(s) by which TYSABRI exerts its effects in multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease have not been fully defined.
--TYSABRI has not been studied for use longer than 2 years.
--COPAXONE is not a cure...
--The mechanism(s) by which glatiramer acetate exerts its effects in patients with MS are not fully understood.
