hi TAL, sorry to hear u are having a bad time. i had the hug as part of my dx attack in 2006. it went away and has not returned to date. i am not sure if it went away by itself, or due to the huge nutrition changes that i made after i was diagnosed. hope this helps, somewhat!

Thanks for the info and input Jimmy. I'll check into it. I'm already taking 3000 mgs of Vitamin D a day and I'm on Betaseron. I hope to be able to get in to see my Nero tommorrow. Also have tingling and numbness in my fingers that came on at the same time. Ah ya gotta love this MS stuff don't you!!!!

Have a good night.

Hi tripalot.

MS Hug is a nuisance! And, can be scary if no one tells you what it is, speaking from experience.

Anyhow, check out the MSRC's MS Hug or "Girdle" page for releveant info - http://www.msrc.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseact ... ageid=1418

kind regards

squiffs :)

Sorry to hear about your ms hug.

I have had them at least once a year for the past 5 years or so and it's horrible. I went to the ER a couple times and had ekg's done because I swore I was having a heart attack. So scary.

Mine usually last anywhere from 2-6 weeks.
Only good thing is they go away, eventually. I have had a twinge in my chest for the past week and I hope it's not back.

Hope yours goes away soon ~tc

Yes, I've had it. It can come and go just like all other ms symptoms. I've had it for an hour but also up to 5 days! Those were not good 5 days :( best wishes!

MS Hug

Post by hwebb »

I believe I had this symptom, the MS Hug, ~ 10 years before I was diagnosed with MS. I had overindulged in chocolate...then had ~ 4 days of the MS Hug. Doctor thought it was liklely a gall-bladder attack, and told me to avoid fatty foods. That i did, and never had that symptom again. No symptoms untiI 10 years later. Lotsa relapses now though.

I have found out that most of my MS hug was caused by stiffness of the muscles of the back. I don't know how could that affect the feeling at the stomach, but it did. Just give it a try and find a physiotherapist to relax your back.

The hug was possibly my most persistent symptom. I must have had it for at least ten years. Not always bad enough to be like a heart attack. I finally got on top of it by back massage and cupping. Still didn't go completely but it was a huge improvement. Like Sou says the problem seemed to be tight inter-costal muscles and related to poor blood supply.
