Anybody got any links on effects of p53.
I was wondering if anybody has heard of any current research of the tp53 gene and the p53 protein and how it effects MSers.
Maybe not be exactly what you're after, but this research might be in the ballpark:

Now i'm a tad confused as this study seems to show that activated p53 causes MS and yet on the other hand those with higher levels of sun exposure have lower levels of MS and sunshine turns on p53 that tans the skin.

Thanks dignan that like was interesting that p53 seemed to affect microglial behaviour.
Yes Harry I've read an abstract on research on how p53 affects tanning. This is for p53 proteins that are functioning normally and was probably researched as it was a newly discovered function of p53. Traditionally they're main role was viewed as checking cells as they developed and killing them if there was a fault. A more detailed and accurate definition is at wikipedia.

Since I read that p53 is up regulated in MSers I've been trying to find out if there has been studies to see if the tp53 gene or the p53 protein of MSers are modified in some way. I know that HPV binds an E6 protein to p53 which inactivates it. What I've wondered is could p53 be changed to increase cell apoptosis.

Re: p53
I obtained this file a few years ago... Sometimes biology is a little more complex than we would like to think. There are many interactive players that affect p53. Moreover, this story is likely incomplete with more to be discovered.
