Flu shot, post campath: Yes or no?

Post by queenie »

Okay, so I am an RN. The Dept of Health in my county has mandated all healthcare workers to get vaccinated, or else have a doc's note.
I asked my research nurse, and she said okay. Then I brought it up again, and now she doesn't remember saying okay. She says that the study people say "No vaccinations!".
It's a good thing I waited a few days on the shot!
What have the rest of you been told? Yey or nay?

I would say no. I don't know that much about campath but I know that I wouldn't rock the boat if things were looking up for me. I have had reactions from the flu shot (I have had it 4 times) and I still caught the flu even after having th shot.

Thanks for the input, LR.
I don't really think that it's a danger, and have always taken the flu shot without incidence.
But why take a chance, if the big brains say 'no'?

flu shot

Post by Trixie »

Hi, I'm new here and I finished my first week of Campath in July. My neuro here at the University of Michigan hospital said it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a flu shot but NO LIVE virus vaccines. Dead virus only. I've never had a flu shot in my life and I'm just not sure if I should get one or not. My neuro left the decision up to me. I hate it when that happens !!!

Trixie: Thanks for posting!
My research nurse finally told me it is okay, as long as I don't get any live viruses. The flu shot is a dead virus. I got it about 2 weeks ago, and all is good.
As a healthcare worker (RN) my state has mandated it unless I have a very specific dr's note.
Any way, I am fine, and will take the N1H1 also, when it comes out.

Good for you with the Campath.
I am 5 months post, and feeling really good. I think it is the best I've been in about 20 years!!!
I hope you do as well, but please stay in touch!

Yes, leetz, that's right. Dead vaccines only. The new H1N1 is dead, and I plan to get it. The nasal one is live, so just say no!
