How to taper a medicine?

Post by Algis »

Hey fellas;

Not sure I am using the correct word but I'll try...

I am currently taking Methotrexate 3X10mg/week since quite a long time. It possibly helped (no one knows) because since a while I have no more active lesions. Therefore I'd like to reduce its consumption since I believe the less chemical the better.

Question (request for opinion) is: is it better to change the frequency (like 2X10mg/week) or the dosage (still 3Xweek but 5mg)??

I'd love to hear your opinion; with or without experience

Thank you for your time.

You should ask a doctor or a pharmacist or any health professional.

But my guess would be lower the dosage because your body learns to expect certain things at certain times.

Dunno; and I am not trusting them more than necessary: means I think I feel better inside me than they do; then I'll adjust according to their "experience". Lowering the dosage is not practical because I can't cut (physically) the pills with the remaining of my left hand (no, nobody around me would do that; MTX is coated so cutting is not a real solution, and my wife; thou willing to help is really scared of any experiment).

I start taking with a 2 days interval; just a mess to follow but I can forecast for a month...

Mon - - Thu - - Sun - - Wed - - Sat - - Tue - - Fri - - .......... Back again

I'll report how it changes me (if it does)

Be well
