I've read lots of books since 1988, when my daughter was 2, when I started reading books. Before 1988 I could probably list all the books I read, which was 12 years post HS and 12 years in HS combined. Actually, I think I read a lot of the books I was supposed to read back in JHS & HS, in the early 90s.
I started reading in 1988 because my daughter was in the Terrible Twos and we found ourselves in a book store. While mamma and child were looking at the two yr old appropriate books I wandered off to the parental self-help section. LOL.
I found a book by Eda LeShan called When Your Child Drives You Crazy. Title caught my attention, thumbing through it looked interesting, so I took it home with me. Great book. I think it helped me more come to terms with my own childhood and parents, than instruct me what to do when she drove me crazy. But coming to terms with my childhood helped me become a better parent.
After I read that book, I wanted more, I was on a roll. I picked up a lot of various authors, mostly non-fiction type books. My friend gave me Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and then I picked up the other 3 of his published books, at the time.
In 1993 I found Wayne Dyer's first book. I had read a lot of authors by then... self-help, various religious oriented books, science-fiction comedy... books with more to offer than just a story. None of them compared to what I got from Wayne's books. And he's still writing and doing seminars that I keep missing lately due to weather, and this year, my MS. I've read some other author's books, and still, none compare.
As it turns out, finding Dyer's books parallels when I started having annual flares! Wayne says there are no accidents. Having not known about MS until 2002, I'd say that until my 2002 attack, it's been my chiropractors and Wayne Dyer's impact on me that have kept me going all these years.
1993-2000 were 7 great years, I'll always think because of Wayne's immediate impact on me, my way of thining, doing, being.
The last 4 years have been the most challenging. From March 2000 until April 2003 things just kept getting worse, and worse, and every time I thought it couldn't, it did. What's really funny is, Wayne, himself, told me something on January 20, 2000, that IF I would have listened to him, most of what I've been through in the last 4 years wouldn't have happened. Who knew.
Even with the worst, I was able to handle it all a lot better because of Wayne's teachings. I always felt if he could have this kind of an impact on me, he could help anyone. Wayne says, When the Student is Ready, the Teacher will Appear. I was ready in 1993. I even became Mr. Mom because of it. That's another story altogether.

His first 4 books are what helped me the most. His later books are of a more spiritual nature, they're excellent too but would have been meaningless to me if I hadn't read his early books.
His latest book is his greatest so far.

He also had a 4 hour PBS show of the same name back in March, which was very timely for me because I had a major life change happen in February and his PBS show helped me through it. I haven't actually read the book yet, just watched that PBS show quite a few times back in the Mar/Apr time frame.

Oh, I know -- it was an old joke from braintalk -- I guess you don't remember. That's OK. I was wandering through these forums and saw your thread and it brought back memories. That was a reeeeeally long time ago -- the first time I saw your username I thought you were from London. And Stan Lee used to think I was Russian.
I love Eda LaShan, by the way. And when you first brought up Wayne, I found one of his books and read it -- as you say, the synchronicity was great.
