Starting Copaxone soon . . .

Post by cthomp1 »

I have had MS since 2006, but due to a recent relapse after giving birth, the neurologist STRONGLY suggested I go on copaxone. My biggest concerns are not being able to breast feed and weight gain. My son is 8 months old, so I shouldn't be that upset but I am currently 14#s lighter than my pre-pregnancy and I credit breast feeding for that.

I wonder how common weight gain is after going on Copaxone? Anyone get acupunture to help prevent relapses?

I have been taking copaxone for six years now and did not gain any weight when I started or to this day while on it.

Have you been taking any med's at all for your MS? I'm still waiting for my diagnosis following abnormal mri/lumbar puncture and my fears about the med's are exactly the same as yours e.g. weight gain & not being able to breastfeed. Funnily enough, my son's 8 months old as well! I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the copaxone. I've read up on all the injectables and this seems the one I'd prefer. Oh and I read the molecules in copaxone are too large to pass through breastmilk...
