The National Institutes of Health's Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry has approved the use of 52 human embryonic stem cell lines of Genea Biocells in the U.S. Of the 52 hESCs approved, 43 disease-specific hESC lines represent 24 genetic diseases. Also approved are cell lines expressing genes that code for genetic cancers, metabolic conditions, eye conditions and vascular diseases. The remaining nine cell lines are from different genetic backgrounds. The stem cell lines will be used to support research and development of new treatments.
