Who knew about this? I have never heard of it, and I could not find any references on here.

Nervonic acid is a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid. Nervonic acid has been identified as important in the biosynthesis of nerve cell myelin. It is found in the sphingolipids of white matter in human brain.

In most references you find that people say it is a treatment for MS, yet searching google scholar does not show many useful hits. :?
However, these were two others that I found.
http://www.nervonicacid.com Maybe a little obvious. These guys sell it in bulk. Minimum 1Kg.
A Patent

I rang the local import control of medicines today, and they said I can personally import up to 3 months for personal use.

I do not understand why there are so many people on Alibaba.com trying to sell the stuff, but no one appears to sell it as a supplement. What is it being used for?

I am trying to import 4-AP-3-MeHO, so I will try asking the supplier of that if he can get it, and I will also ring my compounding pharmacy to see if they can source it.

Actually found a company that sells it, and has offices around the world! including one in Australia. But they certainly do not present it for human consumption. And its chemical diagram looks very different to every other one I have seen.

Sorry, not really.

I got a contact email of one of the Chinese sales sites, but after I emailed them, I did not get a response for months, and from memory, it did not give me a huge boost in confidence in their ability to supply it.

I guess I also got distracted in getting the 4-AP-3-MeHO. That turned out to be useless for me.

Apart from my posts above, do you (or anyone who reads this thread) know anything more about it?

There are natural sources of nervonic acid. I consume 100 g of flax seed about every 12 days. That's not a lot of nervonic acid, but it is some.

Nervonic acid is abundant in King Salmon (Chinook) with 140 mg/100g, yellow mustard seed 83 mg/100g, flaxseed 64 mg/100g, Sockeye salmon 40 mg/100g, sesame seed 35 mg/100g, and macademia nuts 18 mg/100g
These structure diagrams are identical by the way. They're just two ways of representing the same thing.

Borage oil contains 1.8% nervonic acid (about 28x higher than flax). It also contains 21.8% gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which was a component of the PLP10 regimen. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23599375 However, borage oil has been found to reduce omega-3 fats (at least in platelets) such as alpha linolenic acid (ALA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). http://link.springer.com/article/10.100 ... 143#page-1

I've been considering adding borage oil to my supplement regimen and was wondering if it matters if I take it with my fish oil which provides 1800 mg of omega-3 in EPA and DHA? Or, should I take it separately from the fish oil?

The references in the patent are a little missleading. One has the incorrect name for the author and the other journal has changed it's name. Here are links to the correct references.
On the second reference, if you click the 'look inside' option you'll then be able to read the abstract, intro and beginning of the materials and methods.

Naturally Occurring Nervonic Acid Ester Improves Myelin Synthesis by Human Oligodendrocytes

The dysfunction of oligodendrocytes (OLs) is regarded as one of the major causes of inefficient remyelination in multiple sclerosis, resulting gradually in disease progression. Oligodendrocytes are derived from oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs), which populate the adult central nervous system, but their physiological capability to myelin synthesis is limited. The low intake of essential lipids for sphingomyelin synthesis in the human diet may account for increased demyelination and the reduced efficiency of the remyelination process. In our study on lipid profiling in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis brain, we revealed that during acute inflammation, nervonic acid synthesis is silenced, which is the effect of shifting the lipid metabolism pathway of common substrates into proinflammatory arachidonic acid production. In the experiments on the human model of maturating oligodendrocyte precursor cells (hOPCs) in vitro, we demonstrated that fish oil mixture (FOM) affected the function of hOPCs, resulting in the improved synthesis of myelin basic protein, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein, and proteolipid protein, as well as sphingomyelin. Additionally, FOM reduces proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and enhances fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) synthesis by hOPCs was also demonstrated. Based on these observations, we propose that the intake of FOM rich in the nervonic acid ester may improve OL function, affecting OPC maturation and limiting inflammation.

Nervonic acid is not an essential fatty acid. This means that the body can make it given the appropriate precursors. The biosynthesis of nervonic acid starts from oleic acid which is found in high levels in olive oil (approximately 70-80%). This begs the question, can we increase levels of nervonic acid, an essential component of sphingomyelin, by consuming more olive oil?
