How do i organise/time my vits? Are these vits good for MS?

Post by dc10 »

First, as i have recently re-introduced my supplements after being off them for blood tests, i was wondering what is an advisable order/timing of my following supplements:

Calcium citrate (250mg) - Magnesium Glycinate (2x 200mg) - Zinc picolinate (50mg) - Copper Bisglycinate (chelate) (2x 2mg) - Vitamin ... B50 - C (1000mg) - D3 (5000IU) - Selenium (200mcg) - Sea kelp (187mg) - COQ10 (100mg)

I can take some/all of these vitamins with Breakfast, Lunch, and/or Dinner, but what would be a good order/timing to take some/all in?

Also, what are others thoughts on the following supplements, they are used by MS patients on the Dr Terry Wahls trial (Wahls paleo diet) so am keen to take them:

Essential - hydroxytyrosol - Two capsules twice daily.(Pinnaclife Essential)
Maltodextrin fiber supplement - 1 scoop daily
Taurine - one gram daily
Creatine - one teaspoon daily
N acetylcysteine - 1 gram daily
Alpha lipoic acid - 300 mg twice daily
L acetyl carnitine - 500 mg twice daily

Can anyone see any benefits of an MS patient taking these?

zinc and copper in the am.

one mag and d3 at lunch. plus b50.

one mag at dinner. plus selenium and vit C

i have no real comments re calcium, sea kelp, coQ10, or the other supplements listed. if i had to choose a time for calcium, i guess i'd say in between the two doses of magnesium.

are you taking any fish oil btw?

okay,
i thought zinc and copper had to be taken at different times, due to each one fighting for absorption, so best to separate ?

From a bit of googling those supplements, they seem to be antioxidants and amino acids , so i guess it wouldnt hurt to take them
- amino acids and antioxidants all seem to help with reducing inflammation

is there a reason you dont seem to keen on calcium supplements? are they not helpful to MS patients, as on the MSRC site it says:
The 3 Essential: Vitamin D, Calcium, and Magnesium
and the site recommends 800mg/day

Yes i do take fish oil , i forgot to say, i take 2x 1000mg omega 3 fish oil daily

my zinc and copper come in the same capsule. if anything, you could take some copper with zinc, some away. up to you. i have a requisition kicking around from last july with a zinc and copper test on it, when i get those results i'll let you know how it's working out!

yep largely when it comes to some of the antioxidants the body should be making on its own, i prefer not to provide a crutch that may weaken natural mechanisms. i like to go for nutritional support of natural mechanisms. that's just me though. for example i don't take inosine to boost uric acid, i take zinc to fix the urea cycle and from there uric acid normalizes on its own. uric acid is a kick ass antioxidant.

as for calcium, i guess with my d3 and dietary intake, i get enough and am absorbing well. if i take extra calcium i feel like i have too much in my system, out of balance with the magnesium. muscles get spastic. so i stopped using it and feel better.

good re fish oil!
