Question about financial support options for MS

Post by blacknite3 »

Does anyone know of a good source of information for options in regards to disability to help pay for expenses? I'm not really in a bind financially and my medical expenses are relatively low, but an indirect expense is bleeding us dry.

When I was originally diagnosed with MS, I was the primary care-giver for my two kids (then 6-months-old and 3-years-old). I was keeping them at home 4-5 days a week and sending them to an in-home day care 2-3 days a week so I could work part-time. We were contemplating a fulltime day care so I could work more, but then I was diagnosed and we started to worry if I would be able to care for them safely throughout the week. So that became one of the major motivational factors to enroll them in a 5-day a week day care.

So fast-forward to three years later. The oldest is now in 1st grade, but the youngest is still in Day Care and I'm tired of spending half of my paycheck each week on child care. So we are thinking about taking him out of day care and working from home, but I'm still concerned about the "what-ifs" that may come up.

Should I worry about finding a way to keep him in day care? Could I argue that it's an expense necessitated by my MS? Or am I being selfish and petty?

As I read this, it's sounding more and more like I'm just looking for a handout. Maybe I'll just tough it out another year or two until they are both in public school.

Thanks for the constructive input ;-)
