I'm tossing around the idea of getting a Zinger Chair. Does anyone have any experience with them?

An interesting chair, no doubt!

Something to consider, two hands are required to operate/steer and if you don't have great control of your hands/arms, you might end up zig zagging often and precise control may be more difficult than a typical motorized chair.

There are similar motorized chairs with one handed 'joystick' operation that might be easier to operate. And there are more conventional type portable/folding scooters also available than may be easier to control/steer.

After reading multiple reviews I've discovered that the Zinger Chair's drive mechanism consists of a knurled shaft that is pushed against the tire treads in order to propel the chair. If the tires get wet or get debris on them, like pine needles, then the drive mechanism loses its ability to propel the chair. This situation is worsened if you need to go up an incline. One could imagine that the chair would be next to useless if there was even a light dusting of snow on the ground. Here's a photo of the drive mechanism with the covers removed. https://i0.wp.com/i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MT ... c/$_86.JPG

Yes, and also a few days of snow each Winter. The driveway is also sloped and full of pine needles.

All of those look very interesting and superior to the Zinger. Please let us know which one you decide on.

It looks like the Zinger Chair is available in the UK as the Joy Rider Chair with more conventional motors and drive mechanism.

https://www.e-goes.co.uk/shop/joyrider-powered-chair/

The following site says that the Zinger was the Joy Rider's predecessor so the US is getting marketed a second rate, obsolete chair that's already been updated.

Do you know the cost of this one? It looks amazing! Maybe NASA needs to take a look at the design for future MARS missions... LOL!

You are still just 'shopping' at this point, correct?

No, I don't know the cost. Though, their website states that there are charities that are buying them for disabled veterans.

Yes, still shopping. I think that I would have a hard time getting in and out of the Zoom, though it does come with an option for a swivel seat.

Still, something like the Zoom leaves the typical mobility scooter in the dust.

Oh, in case anybody is interested, the updated Zinger Chair, known as the Joy Rider Chair in the UK, is now available in the US as the Zoomer Chair.

https://shop.southernmobilityonline.com ... available/

However, this site and others state that it's not a wheelchair, that Medicare & Medicaid don't pay for it and that it really shouldn't be used in the rain. The chair frame and motors are only covered by a 1 year warranty and the battery is only covered by a 6 month warranty.

I'm now considering one of these chairs. https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-Elec ... 0829DBJ48/

However, the chair's manual says it shouldn't get wet and yet the company's customer support says that it's ok to use it in the rain. Do they just want to sell a chair? I'm also concerned about the rear drive tires and that they could get a flat and leave you stranded. Other similar chairs have solid rear drive tires.

Here's another mobility device, the Nino. It's like a Segway, but with a seat.
