2nd Annual CCSVI Symposium in NYC July 15-17

I am very pleased to announce that there will be a second Annual NYC CCSVI symposium this year from Friday July 15 through Sunday July 17.

This conference then, triples the time compared to the first one in 2010. Not only have I added a second day for professionals (July 16-17), I have also instituted a full day dedicated to patient education and discussion (July 15).

The meeting will take place in Manhattan and it will be managed by a professional meeting and event service. Not that we did not have a great conference last year in Brooklyn, I just thought we were ready for prime time in the Big Apple.

The Patients have their say and their day!
Our steering committee includes two PsMS well known to everyone, Cece and Bestadmom. The patient day will have some exciting opportunities for learning, including lectures by nurses who will explain the critical role that nurses play during procedures, ultrasound technologist who will explain how an ultrasound exam is done and how to prepare for it so that the images can be optimized and by physicians who will talk about risks and benefits, techniques and bailouts, IVUS, followup care, anticoagulation and the principles of stents and stenting.

The wheelchair Kamizakee, Marc Stecker, has agreed to present an essay on CCSVI and MS and we will end the patient day with a special preview of Jason Da Silva's movie about his MS journey ahead of its showing on Public television.

I am looking to have reserved "meet the professor coffee sessions" before the patient lectures where patients can sit and speak with experts they have talked about but never had opportunity to meet.

Professionals get it their way

The two professional days are jammed with cutting edge discussions from bioengineering to stem cell research. A full afternoon is scheduled to discuss many of the trials currently underway in the treatment of ccsvi.

A list of the topics includes:
• hemodynamnics and hydrodynamics of CCSVI
• Cerebral hypoperfusion in CCSVI
• MRI flow quantification
• Clinical presentations of CCSVI
• Ultrasound techniques
• ultrasound hemodynamics
• ultrasound interpretations
• angiographic techniques and venographic findings
• intravascular ultrasound
• Treatment techniques for stenoses
• treatment techniques for valves
• treatment techniques of upper jugular lesions
• treatment techniques for hypoplasia
• principles of stem cell therapy
• combined therapy: treatment of CCSVI and regenerative therapy
• ultrasound in followup surveillance
• stenting
• Bailout techniques and treatment of restenosis
• Integration of ccsvi into an ambulatory practice
• Trial design: a neurologist's perspective
• Trial design: an interventionalist's perspective
• Review of 6 treatment trials
• Roundtable discussion of the next steps in evaluation of ccsvi treatment

I wanted to have a live procedure broadcast, but thought it was not ready for prime time yet.

I am not going to disclose the faculty and hotel just yet. there is much private work to do to confirm all the speakers and apply for CME credits.

I hope to see you there

Sounds great. Wish I was closer to New York. Perhaps you will consider a west coast site for next year's conference? Vancouver is nice!

Love to come, but... the trip is to much for me (Europe)

Maybe we can watch it / join live on the net?

Could you connect to Skype or Webmeeting or some other web based hosting system so people worldwide could participate?

When you say hotel, does this mean you will have a block of rooms available for people who want to come? I'm eager for a second chance to meet some people properly. :-) This is very exciting. It will be my one year anniversary, too!

I'll be there! The meeting last year was so exciting. It was the first time that doctors had the opportunity to share information in a forum such as this. It was fascinating to hear them all describe their varying techniques. We all learned so much that day!
I can't wait to see what a different event it will be this year. Our knowledge and the doctors' experience has grown exponentially in just 12 months.
Thanks for continuing to keep patients front and center, Dr. Sclafani. Your ongoing commitment to us is so greatly appreciated!

I would love to attend! Are there more details coming? Where in Manhatten? Or did I miss this?
That a day is dedicated to patients is incredible; what a concept...thank you Doctor Sclafani!!!

I'm planning to attend. I live in Connecticut so it will be a day trip for me. I'm interested in learning about new treatments. My left jugular is occuluded from a thrombosis on one of my three stents. Since my right jugular opened successfully I have no MS symptoms. But if I experience restenosis I am back to square one. The IR group in Albany is following me.
