Stents in Poland

Post by Brainteaser »

I was one of the first to have a jugular stent inserted in Poland - unfortunately.
My neurologist wants an MRI but the hospital won't do it without knowing the type of stent.
I have contacted Poland a number of times but without much luck.
My GP suggests trying the Polish Embassy.
Anyone have any suggestions or know the type of stent used?
Thanks

Hi Robert,

Yes, obviously I contacted Dr Simka and I have attempted repeated contact with Poland for over a year.
My operation was in November 2009, incidentally on the same day another patient, Radeck had a stent migrate. This was a difficult period which I'm sure a few doctors would like to forget.
Thanks for the info regarding your Neptune stent but I think I probably need something more official in writing to satisfy the hospital doing the MRI.

Hi Phil,

I asked because i had the same issue, but got a good reply.....so that made me wonder...

I know that in the end of 2009 Dr. Simka was in the try-phase, feb 2010 the Euromedic official treatment started.
Suppose administration was not the strongest point in that time....BAD THING!!

95% of he stents made after 2005 are MRI proof...but hey, what about the 5%?? you cant take any risk.

I feel sorry for you, can any doctor identify he stent via a full color CT scan?
I had one, the stent is fully visible..

just my 2 cents.

regards,

Robert

Actually, I got no querries regarding stents during last 2 years or so. Maybe the questions were directed to a wrong address?
Anyway, there are some limitations regarding stents only afterduring first few months after implantation, thus MRI can be safely performed irrespective of the type of -if the procedure was done long before. The only exception is the use of very strong (like 7T) MRI machine, yet there are only a few such "monsters" worldwide and probably not a single one in Australia.
details of stent implanted should be present of "information card" given to the patient. In a case such an information is missing or document is displaced, please contact Dr. Ludyga (t.ludyga@poczta.fm) look for details in hospital's archive.

Dear Dr Simka,

Does this email ring a bell?

"4/9/13

to mariansimka, Sal, Clyneekwa

Dear Dr Simka,
I had a CCSVI treatment with you in November 2009.
I am now proposing a CCSVI treatment with Dr Sclafani in New York.
Please forward a copy of my medical records to Dr Sclafani and a copy to me by return email.
Thank you.

Regards,
Philip''

A request for medical records would include details of the stent used, I should think.

You apparently passed the matter on to others at Euromedic where things have stalled. I don't recall getting any discharge papers and I told them that on 4/11/13.

Robert above suggests those treated in 2009 might have been sort of guinea pigs. I hope that was not the case.

You will recall that I was referred to you by Prof Zamboni and you supervised my treatment personally, so I think the best way forward regarding my request for documentation might be for you to personally get across it.

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear Dr Simka,

Just bumping this up to check if you have found my medical records yet. You will recall that I asked you for them 15 months ago. That's when you passed the matter across to others at Euromedic where nothing much has happened since. You were referred to me by Prof Zamboni who I saw in Ferrara. He said you were the best practitioner for CCSVI, however you may be interested to learn that as a result of this treatment I spent 22 months in a Melbourne hospital.

It would be greatly appreciated if you would take appropriate action to provide me with my documentation ASAP.

Hi Dr Simka,

Still no word from you yet.

I contacted my hospital to enquire about the type of MRI machines they use. I gave them the details you said but they were confused. Regarding 'Monsters', they said do you mean the big hairy ones or the short green ones. I said that I think it's some kind of post moderne medical speak.

Anyway, they still need details from you of the make and type of stent you used.

Hi Phil!
I hope you get the information you need ASAP.
I had the procedure done on Nov. 3 , 2009 in Katowice. My documentation says my stent is Genesis (8x29 mm). I had MRI of my brain and C-spine done twice in Slovakia. It was 1,5 T machine with no problems. I do not have any problems with my stent so far.
Good luck!

Hi Erika,

Good to hear from you.

That's interesting you had a Genesis (8x29mm) stent inserted. However, that doesn't mean I had the same. Who knows what they used for others and they're not saying in my case. Could have been anything and maybe we were just guinea pigs as has been said.

Dr Simka says "The only exception is the use of very strong (like 7T) MRI machine, yet there are only a few such "monsters" worldwide and probably not a single one in Australia." But that's not true - http://www.cai.uq.edu.au/uq-on-world-st ... werful-mri

He was deceptive about this, so what else is he hiding?

I think he is not hiding something, and i dont think you were a guinea pig.
He must know which stents he used, if all stents were mri proof.....

Rgds,

Robert

I don´t think prof. Simka has been hiding something.
He has been fair and informed me about everything. I have the best experience with him. Actually I was satisfied with all doctors and nurses in Poland.
I would do it again!

Some doctors from Slovakia know him. They speak very nice and with respect about him.
I admire him for his knowledge, attitude and passion for his job.
Phil, I strongly hope your problem will be solved soon.

It appears Dr Simka used a variety of stents on different patients and in some cases people know the type of stent used. In my case, after 16 months of polite requests, he is not saying anything. This is an outrageous situation. He is presumably a qualified and apparently respected medical practitioner who should know the expected standards of medical reporting.

He has been told quite clearly that his vague verbal assurances are not going to satisfy a respected hospital in Australia. He knows this but still refuses to co-operate.
