Source for 4-aminopyridine

Post by Jemwed »

Ampyra and 4-ap are out of the question here in Japan.

I'm forced to order my own and compound it myself.

Does anyone know of a good source?

Thanks a lot.

In Australia, I used the following company to supply 4-AP-3-MeHO (NB: It did nothing for me compared to 4-AP). I got their name from the published study on the chemical, and they were able to supply it, after I also covered all the legal requirements on sourcing an unapproved medication in Australia. The company was http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/ They also have a Japanese entry point to their web site. http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/japan.html

I simply sent them an email, and they responded fairly promptly and were helpful to supply the product, and I then found a local compounder to put it in dosed slow release capsules, which is very important because of the small dose and the fact 4-AP is basically bird poison. The other thing to note is, that it really needs to stored carefully to avoid degradation (ie oxygen, water, light etc).

Also, in Australia there is a govt agency which controls the importation of medicines. They have a specific process to import unapproved medicines such as Ampyra. You may find that Japan has a similar group, and therefore possibly a similar process to access Ampyra.

Good-luck.
