Wound Healing?

Post by NHE »

I was wondering if anyone here who has been on Avonex for a while has noticed a decrease in the rate of wound healing? For example, I've been on Avonex for 9.5 years and I've noticed lately that some wounds seem to take longer than they used to to heal. I banged my shin in early March and while it's mostly healed, I've still got a pretty good mark and/or scar from it.

Thanks, NHE

MMP-9s

Post by jackD »

I know that this will not be anything you can understand BUT the reason for what you have described could be that Avonex lowers the level of MMP-9s that do lots of the MS damage but they are also BIG tissue re-modelers that are very much involved in healing.

This is a VERY VERY complex issue. I have post a LOT on this but no one seems to get it.

You can do some research in pubmed. I have also posted on things that help healing but these posts are long gone.

You should get some good blood tests on those blood factors that are critical to healing. These tests should go way beyond the basic blood tests.

JackD, can you repost what blood tests should be done and what helps healing?
Thank you
