Osteoporosis from Coimbra protocol - iodine and Boron

Post by mrtmeo »

I see bone loss as one of the side effects of the Coimbra D3 protocol especially, for those that cannot exercise.

Boron is necessary for bone formation according to many studies.
Why doesn't Coimbra try using Boron to help folks with osteoporosis?
I was able to see a bone density improvement with my mom eating 4-6 prunes per day for 3 months.
Prunes are one of the highest in Boron foods.

10 prunes per day reverse osteoporosis

Also, if the thyroid can trigger calcium bone absorption, shouldn't iodine be helpful to the protocol?
Of course, iodine should always be taken with selenium.

Mother was on Rituximab and prednisone for Microscopic Polyangiitis which attacked the kidneys and lungs.
Drs denied her dialysis and appropriate treatment for her MPA and forced her into hospice.
She is in heaven and free from pain.

Hi mrtmeo,

Thank you for the info.

Osteoporosis is very very rare with patients. Although it can happen second Coimbra.

When a patient has bone loss because of the Coimbra Protocol - doctors add more vitamins, minerals and other things (like Bisphosphonate) to the protocol. However, I don't know exactly ''what and how much'' doctors add to the protocol because I haven't heard about anyone who has developed osteoporosis even on Facebook Groups.

So, I don't know 100% if they add iodine, boron and prunes to the protocol.

My brother takes Selenium from Coimbra Complex of Minerals. And Iodine and prunes from his Naturopath prescription.

When a patient face this condition of bone loss, then it is very important have a certified doctor guiding you.

Hi Antonio,
Thanks for the response.
I was searching Coimbra's info online and found a lab result after long term use of his protocol.
It showed the bone loss was significatant years later, but I can't find again.
I have a dr that is willing to do the Coimbra protocol, but I don't know if my mom will be able to follow the restrictions and requirements.
I would like to cover all bases before starting.
Right now, she is in partial remission of Microscopic Polyangiitis ( a form of vasculitis) on Cellcept, but she has GI issues with this drug and can't take the therapeutic dose needed to get into complete remission.
It is good to hear that osteoporosis is not the norm in this protocol.
My mom has COPD too and would not be able to do the 30 minute per day brisk walks.
I don't believe bisphosphonates are a good option either.
I do think she could do light weight lifting from a sitting or standing position.

Her disease really hit her kidneys, so she has to be on the cellcept, but not sure if going mega dose D would overcome this issue or not without further kidney damage.

Hi mrtmeo,

Yes, people with kidney problems need to pay much more attention when following the protocol. They should do medical tests more often and they can't drink less than 2~2.5 liters of water every day.

There are a lot of patients that don't exercise and at the same time, they don't use bisphosphonates. And they are fine. I guess that most of the people don't exercise... even those who can. Although exercises are highly recommended.

I asked about it for my brother's doctor from Coimbra Protocol months ago and he said that he has almost 500 patients following this protocol and most of them don't like or can't do exercises... Only 5 of them need to use these bisphosphonates drugs.

Like you, I also don't believe that bisphosphonates are a good option.

I really hope your mother can improve and that the Protocol can help her.

Hi Antonio,
Thank you so much for that information.
It makes the protocol sound doable and gives me hope.
