Conclusion
Taken together, our results demonstrated that MS patients have lower levels of antioxidant biomarkers, adiponectin, total antioxidant capacity of plasma, zinc, and SH groups, as well as higher levels of inflammatory biomarkers, TNF-α and sTNFR2, compared to controls, independently of sex, age, and BMI.
To our knowledge, this is the first report demonstrating that a combination of aforementioned biomarkers, including adiponectin, TRAP, SH groups, zinc, and sTNFR2, may be useful for MS diagnosis with high sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy.
Therefore, this panel of biomarkers could be incorporated in the diagnostic biomarkers for MS in combination with clinical and radiological disease diagnostic criteria to improve the sensitivity and specificity of diagnosis.
The results also suggest that the pathways involved with these biomarkers may be further evaluated as potential targets for a personalized therapy of MS patients.
