Fever

Post by Punchy »

Three times in the past year, after taking Rebif I developed a nasty fever that lasted all night and into the morning. On Wednesday night this happened and I was up to 101C until nearly 9:30 the next morning.

The first time it happened I was new to taking it, second time I had had the flu shot, and last time, er well for the first time I had sex immediately after taking the shot.

Any one else experience this?

Have you tried taking any ibuprofen to help counter the side effects? I used to get pretty bad fevers when I first started taking Avonex but taking ibuprofen at the time of my shot and then about 4 hours later seemed to help a bit. I still take ibuprofen but now just take one dose about 3-4 hours after my shot though sometimes a second dose the next day is helpful. I also found that taking my shot early in the day, e.g., before noon, is helpful as I seem to do better with the Ifn-B during the day than while I'm sleeping.

Punchy,

no I have never had sex right after the shot - that's really kinky. But seriously, try an analgesic. ibuprofen, motrin, whatever, that really helped me I was starting out on rebif.

Oh believe me, I take ibuprofen - 400mg an hour before my shot then another in the morning.

That's the advice I always get

Have you tried taking your shot in the day rather than in the evening? I found that my body doesn't seem to thermoregulate well when I try to sleep on Ifn-B and I get less side effects if I have my shot during the day.
