They tested patients who had progressive MS and found little or no effect on disease progression. Now if you took all the other "approved" drugs for MS and tested them on progressive MS patients, you would likely get very similar results. To date, there is no drug treatment that has any real benefit for progressive MS patients.

So is it any real surprise that MJ doesn't affect the progression of the disease in this kind of patient?!!

Someone paid those researchers which did the studies. Think it is important to know who put up the money for the study.

Dr. John Zajicek, who was the lead researcher, is Chairman of Neurosciences at a Plymouth UK medical school. He has spent a number of years researching MJ and its effects on the various symptoms of MS. It appears that most of his funding comes from research grants in the UK. Although GW Pharmaceuticals (makers of MJ based Sativex) is located in the UK and are obviously supporters of MJ based medical use, it doesn't look like Dr. Zajicek is affiliated with them.

He has done previous trials with MS and MJ and found it to help spasticity and pain for many MS patients.

I suppose he ran this trial to see if MJ had any effect on progressive MS and like other treatments, the results were not positive.
