CBD going mainstream

Post by NHE »

I have a family member who received the following information in an investment email newsletter. Amazing! CBD is going mainstream.

------------------------------------------------------------

5 Proven Health Benefits of CBD Oil, Friday, May 19, 2017

California was the first state to approve medical marijuana in 1996. Since then, 27 more states and Washington, D.C., have legalized its medical use.

And after the November 2016 election, the Golden State became part of the 25% of the country that also has access to legal recreational marijuana.

This "green gold rush" is one of the strongest socioeconomic trends today. And it's just a matter of time before cannabis use is legalized in some form nationwide.

California indeed kicked off a movement on the medical marijuana front. One where doctors could recommend it as a therapy for seizures, cancer, arthritis, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, migraines, insomnia, anxiety, PTSD, reduced appetite and more.

Studies show that the medical benefits of marijuana are undeniable. And that's thanks to compounds within the plant called cannabinoids.

There are more than 60 types of cannabinoids in marijuana. THC is the most-talked-about, as this is the one that provides the psychoactive effects.

But if you don't have access to marijuana ... or want to avoid any of its potentially brain-altering effects ...

Let's look at a different — and legal — compound.

It's called cannabidiol, or CBD for short.

CBD is the major non-psychoactive component of Cannabis sativa. (The scientific term for a type of marijuana.)

According to a 2013 study published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, CBD acts as an:
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anticonvulsant (or, anti-seizure agent)
  • Antioxidant
  • Antiemetic (agent against nausea, motion sickness and vomiting)
  • Anxiolytic (anxiety-reducer), and
  • Antipsychotic agent.
These are just to name a few.

And CBD oil is completely legal because it can be extracted from hemp, a close cousin of marijuana.

Now, hemp isn't legal to grow in every U.S. state. But the Food and Drug Administration lists CBD oil as a "dietary supplement." That means you can buy it online and have it delivered to any state.

5 Proven Health Benefits of CBD

1. Potent Anti-Inflammatory

We've written to you many times about the dangers of painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Tylenol and Advil.

Mainstream drugs like these can come with harsh physical side effects like ulcers, liver damage and internal bleeding.

And opiate-based painkillers like Vicodin and hydrocodone are big contributors to the even-more-life-threatening addiction epidemic our country faces.

Chronic inflammation has been linked to diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer's, and many others.

If you're looking for an alternative to the dangerous pharmaceuticals used to treat these kinds of conditions, look no further than CBD oil.

Studies have shown CBD significantly suppresses chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain. And it does so without causing analgesic (or, painkiller) tolerance.

In other words ...

Unlike opiate painkillers — which only mask pain and quickly build a tolerance in the body — CBD is an effective anti-inflammatory that does not lose its effectiveness over time.

2. Anxiety Relief

Another epidemic currently ravaging the U.S. is our dependence on dangerous anxiety medications like Xanax, Valium and Ativan.

These are short-term solutions that carry a high risk of addiction. Yet, it seems like some doctors hand them out like Halloween candy.

CBD oil is a natural alternative that can be just as effective, without the negative side effects.

CBD oil has been shown to reduce anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorder. Researchers suggest that it may also be effective for panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

A 2011 study compared the effects of a simulation public speaking test. Researchers monitored healthy control patients, and treatment-native patients with social anxiety disorder.

A total of 24 never-treated patients with social anxiety disorder were given either CBD or a placebo 1.5 hours before the test.

Researchers found that pre-treatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance.

The placebo group presented higher anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort.

3. Diabetes Prevention

Nearly HALF of the U.S population either has diabetes or shows pre-diabetes symptoms.

This dangerous disease poses its own daily health complications. But it also puts you at much-greater risk for heart disease, kidney failure, nerve damage, and many other disorders.

Studies have found that CBD treatment significantly reduces the risk of diabetes in mice. The incidence dropped from 86% in non-treated mice to 30% in CBD-treated mice.

Meaning, CBD has beneficial effects on your blood sugar and can reduce your risk of diabetes.

4. Nausea

CBD is a potent nausea and vomiting reliever, just as marijuana has been touted for centuries.

A 2012 study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD benefits included anti-nausea and antiemetic effects (think motion sickness, and chemotherapy side effects) when it was administered.

Next time you're feeling a little woozy, don't reach for the TUMS or Pepto. Consider this all-natural substitute instead.

5. Seizure Treatment

Marijuana has shown time and time again its ability to treat seizures where other forms of modern medicine have failed.

These remarkable effects have been a rallying cry for medical marijuana advocates. This is one of the leading forces behind its widespread (and dare we say "growing") legalization.

Now, science is showing CBD can provide the same type of treatment.

For example, a 2014 Stanford University survey showed remarkable results for the use of cannabidiols to treat kids with epilepsy.

An important note: The average number of anti-epileptic drugs tried before using CBD was 12.

Sixteen of the 19 parents (84%) reported a reduction in their child's seizure frequency while taking CBD cannabis. Of these:
  • Two (11%) reported complete seizure freedom.

  • Eight (42%) reported a greater than 80% reduction in seizure frequency.

  • Six (32%) reported a 25%–60% seizure reduction.
Other beneficial effects included increased alertness, better mood and improved sleep; while side effects included drowsiness and fatigue.

3 Suggested CBD Sources

Like any dietary supplement, it's critical to use the highest-quality source available.

CBD oil brands we found to be the best include Charlotte's Web by the Stanley Brothers, and Bluebird Botanicals.

For spot-treatment pain relief, a company called Green Roads makes a unique roll-on cream. It provides transdermal CBD oil directly into the inflamed area.

As you can see, CBD oil is not only an all-natural and safe compound, but it's also one of the more-effective remedies known to man for a wide variety of ailments.

We believe we're going to see a boom in the CBD oil market in the coming years. Ultimately, we expect it will become a household item in Americans' medicine cabinets.

As a former CBD user (I used Charlotte's Web for about 1 1/2 years), I did a lot of research on it at one point. This is an unregulated industry and purchasers need to be very careful and selective of what they buy because you will never know for sure what you are getting. And you likely will not be getting what is listed on the product label. Most product labels have little useful information anyway. Stanley Brothers is out of Colorado and manufactures Charlotte's Web products and seems to be legit and a trusted company. There are only a couple of others like them out there that I would trust. And a whole lot of companies that you should not purchase from.

A neighbor of mine worked as a sales rep for a very short period of time for a company selling CBD in small bottles that coincidentally looked a lot like a 5 Hour Energy. It was being marketed in a manner similar to 5 hour energy. I did a bit of research on the company and their products. IMHO many, many false claims about the products abilities and effectiveness were being made. They basically claimed it was a cure for everything. The info he got was similar to the info your friend got Snake Oil IMHO.

Like most common 'cures', REAL CBD works for some and is certainly worth trying, but be selective on who you purchase from. Also, as with many 'cures', the placebo effect could come into play.

Also keep in mind that CBD products like Charlotte's Web and similar vary greatly in the amount of CBD they can contain and most may not have the content claimed on the labe (I am not referring to Charlotte's Web producs). You just never know as this industry as I mentioned before it unregulated Also, all 'over the counter' CBD products come from hemp, the sister plant to cannabis. In States where CBD is legal, it is derived from cannabis. I am not sure if that makes a difference or not (probably not but who knows - CBS should be CBD regardless of its source).

Thanks for sharing your experience Elliot. Why did you stop? What benefits, if any, did you derive from using it?

Talk about going mainstream. Commercial drug store is now offering Charlotte's Web CBD oil and others.
