Anyone have a recipe for a good tasting healthy salad dressi

Post by Cindy2013 »

I have been using Wish Bone Ranch. It has non-hydrogenated soybean oil. All the others I could find had hydrogenated oil, even the ranch mix your own.packet. Also, would like the name of a good tasting, not too expensive, REAL virgin or extra virgin olive oil.

here's what I do with salad. first put the ingredients in one of two large bowls. (you need a base bowl and a lid bowl) then:

1) sprinkle on vinegar of choice.. not sure how much I use b/c it depends on the mouth of the individual vinegar jar (eg 8 shakes from the white vinegar bottle which is a re-used soy sauce bottle, 2-3 shakes from the balsamic bottle which is original as-is from the store). optional: augment with lemon juice.
2) salt, black pepper and garlic powder to taste
3) small pinch unbleached organic sugar
4) one large pinch each of dried spearmint and basil. oregano too if i'm in the mood (or a handful of these chopped fresh, in season ie RIGHT NOW :D the herb garden is looking amazing :D )
5) briefly pour olive oil in a quick circle over everything
6) add a tablespoon of flaxseed oil

then cover the salad with the other bowl for a lid, and shake it up all together.

top with shredded carrot, sliced meats or hard-boiled egg, grated or crumbled cheese, nuts, seeds, and/or dried fruit to taste.

i'm not very picky about olive oil and I think my flax oil is by 'spectrum'.

I often use a dash of soy sauce mixed with olive oil (could alternatively use canola or Sunflower) which goes well on salads. Its also a good dressing for Brassicas (broccoli, kale, pake choy, cabbage) and beets (swiss chard, Spinach) that I eat tons of but struggle with due to the bland flavour.

How about braggs, olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest. Another is tamari, sesame oil, and rice wine vinegar. Alternately, sometimes I just eat greens with lemon juice squeezed on top. Ranch dressing, no matter the iteration is simply not very good for you! I think there is a natural dressing company (can't remember the name) they make a flavor called "goddess dressing" and I'm pretty sure they have a ranch flavor. I've never looked at ingredients though.

If you want a healthy ranch, use soy free vegenaise with a homemade recipe like this. http://vegweb.com/recipes/best-ranch-dressing-or-dip I prefer more dill than "a pinch" so tweak to your taste. Warning: vegenaise is the ONLY good vegan mayo. Avoid nayonaise like the plague. GROSS!

You can make a very good italian style dressing using hemp seed oil and red wine vineager. Hemp seed oil is loaded with omega-3 and other good stuff, and it tastes great. It can be purchased on Amazon quite inexpensively.
