Low-fat diet helps fatigue in people with MS

Post by MSUK »

People with multiple sclerosis who for one year followed a plant-based diet very low in saturated fat had much less MS-related fatigue at the end of that year — and significantly less fatigue than a control group of people with MS who didn't follow the diet, according to an Oregon Health & Science University study being presented today at the American Academy of Neurology's annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pa.......... While it seems the 'common' notion for health is to go vegan or close to it, there are many reputable sources of information that claim you can do otherwise successfully. I have gone in the opposite direction and consume a lot more meat then I ever did BUT I am eating only 100% grass fed lean meats and only wild caught seafood, all high in what is considered good Omega 3 fat. I have also given up poultry products (chicken and turkey) for the most part.

For veggies I eat only dark greens and for fruit, mainly fruits that are thought to reduce inflammation.

There does not seem to be a consensus as what the best diet is, although diets low in SATURATED fat seems to be a 'proven' theme among virtually all MS diets. Dr. Swank was a man ahead of his time!

In my opinion, your diet is VERY good. However, I agree with Dr. Perlmutter about fat.

Dr. David Perlmutter thinks a diet high in fat, even SATURATED fat, is best: Gluten under Fire w/ Dr. David Perlmutter
