Here's an interesting discussion about GMO foods.
Some thoughts on GMOs
Re: Some thoughts on GMOs
The public opinion on GMO's in unfortunate. They have the potential to reduce or eliminate the number one killer on the planet, starvation/ malnutrition. One in eight people in the world do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
I would assume that the majority of posters on this board live in first world countries, so we have the choice to avoid GMO. The recent crop of golden rice enriched with Vitamin A destined for Africa was burned and destroyed by "activists". Contributing to the death of 2,500 children a day in Africa... A DAY! They were not given the choice between a questionable food and death.

For an interesting discussion of GMO, see the documentary film "The Future of Food."

Some of the problems discussed are Monsanto's predatory actions against organic and non-GMO farmers along with the problem that once plants are released into the environment with modified genes, that it's next to impossible to control the spread of those genes. Monsanto knows this and uses it against organic and non-GMO farmers to Monsanto's financial advantage by filing lawsuits against which the small farmer has no chance of winning.

Re: Some thoughts on GMOs
No arguments with corporate greed. But GMO do have the potential to save lives if they are implemented correctly.
