Hi all. I am doing a trek to Machu Picchu to raise funds for those with MS. There are so many people who, because of being diagnosed, can't do this. Therefore, I am going to take a scroll with me and read aloud the list of names of people with MS when I hit the summit of my trek. This is to raise more awareness about this disease.

My partner has RRMS. I support her wholly and have recently raised £900 for the MS Society. I have a new goal of reaching £5000 for my local MS branch (Eastbourne & Wealdon) via the National MS Society UK. I am doing the local MS Society walk, however I can't decide if I really support that organization. They have never been of any help to me, even when I've asked for it.
Best of luck with the walk... whoever you decide to raise money for, just make sure it's a charity that means something to you. It makes it a whole lot more meaningful to raise money for.
Thanks again for the encouragement. Some people think what I'm doing is a waste of time but at least I can say I tried my best at helping to raise awareness. If one more person is made aware of it, then that's one more person who might help fight to find a cure!

Regarding raising awareness - I think plenty of medical community are aware of MS and those would be the ones developing a cure.
MS is the text books in medical schools .
The MS Society (at least here in USA) does not seem to be very open minded about looking for a cure. Developing new DRUGS - yes. Looking for a cure - not really.

Our MS walk is tomorrow and I will be participating along with fund raising. Our local chapter has been nothing but great anytime I have needed anything.
Maybe you guys that are having trouble just haven't found someone at the chapter that you can connect with.
I hope everything turns out well for you guys. The only way we will come up with a cure is by raising money for research. Clay Walker, country musician, is a great advocate for MS as he is a sufferer as well and he has raised over a million dollars for MS research. Positive thinking produces positve results!!
