Is there anybody from Italy?

Post by iulka »

Hi, is the first time I write here, but I read it everyday...
My name's Iulka, my mom suffered MS and she's scheduled on December/January.
I write because she has got a lot of doubts and she's not able to decide...
Is there any italian that went to Bulgary or that will go in the next months? Here in Italy seems that no one goes to abroad and I think it's very strange... I would like to know italian people because I think it's could be simpler to convince my mother if she knows that people from
Italy go to Bulgary...

thanks a lot
Iulka
Sorry for my bad bad english...

Hi everyone, got home from Sofia yesturday. Had my ballooning done in my left jugular. There was 3 areas of stenosis.my right side was fine.As you have already read the hospital is fine, the docters know exactly what they are doing. There is no need to worry.I have had ringing in my left ear for over a year, now it has stopped. There are plenty of people over there from all over the world. It was great to talk to them and here their views.I not going in to much detail, but I am so glad I have done this. If anyone has any questions, anything at all please ask.

Hi Pan. Glad you've been liberated now, you must be sooo pleased. So you say you had stenosis in three areas so does that mean you had to get stents? And excuse my ignorance as Im still learning but does that mean your veins were narrowed or twisted as opposed to blocked? I go in two weeks and want to have all the info I can.To be forewarned is to be forearmed, Im sure you understand!

Thanks

Hi Koko, My veins were narrow, there was 1 at the top near my ear, the 2nd was in the middle and the last near the bottom. No I did not need stents.Dr. Petrov prefers to only use stents if he realy needs to. He will inflate the ballloon and then deflate it, if the vein stays open thats fine. If not he will use a stent to keep it open. Please feel free to ask as many question as you like. Pan

I have talked to the Greenville and they have a computer for people staying there to talk to loved ones at hame via e-mail for those of you who don't want the hassle of taking a laptop along. I also was wondering about how much money to bring along for cab fares and meals and so on? Any one who has returned home have any hints or ideas?

Hi Pan - Thanks for that every little bit of info helps. Its funny you know what you say about one of the stenosis being near your ear. I often wake up in the morning and have sore ears or else its sore just at my neck below the ear. Ive never reported it to the doctor as it seems minor and goes back to normal when I get up. Its usually worse on the right hand side though I get it on the left too . Its not every night but its now that Im starting to think or rather hope that it could be related to something else???And it has been for a while I mean at least a year or two but I thought it must be the way I sleep at night.

Hi Bill, you dont need much over there. Just pack as if you were going on holiday. I even lost all my ms paper work, prof. Grodzinki just said dont worry. I live in England so my trip was not that bad. (wednsday 9th june) the drive to the airport was 3 hours, than the flight was 2hrs 50 mins. When I got over there I jumped in a cab and that took 15 mins.I got to my hotel at about 11 pm. slept till 7 am. (Thursday 10th june)walked to the hospital from the Greenville (2mins). 9.30 Iwas filling forms, 10 am I was gettint tested with altra sound. Had a blood test about an hour later. Than went up stairs to my hospital room. Waited for the procedure. They did a few more small test. Than I was told I would be done in the morning. I was hungry so I went and had lunch up stairs on floor 9 in the hospital.Went back to my room and chilled. Than about 6pm I was told it was back on and I was to be done tonight. Thay came for me at 7.45 pm and I was on the opperating table at 8pm.Lasted about 50 mins. Felt fine. Went back to my room had alot of enrgy. Fell asleep about 11pm and woke up at 1.30 am not feeling tired on just 4.5 hrs sleep.
( friday 11th) Felt great. Up and about walking around. Left hospital later that day. changed my flight to the next morning (saturday the 12th) . And came home. I must say to everyone that I am one of the lucky ones. I was diagnosed in 2007 rrm ms. I was always and still very active and strong. My symtems were not with me all the time. Balance, blur eye vission, tiredness and small numbness would come and go.

Thanks for reading. If anyone has any more questions please aks. Pan
