... I just found out today that the cost for the venogram + angioplasty will go up to $6000 in November from its current $5000. Cost is $400 for the scheduled follow-ups (doctor office visit and doppler scan at 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 months). If restonosis occurs, the doctor will determine when and at what price he would retreat. My original call to Albany was May 24th.

CCSVI - Multiple Sclerosis Liberation Procedure. All inclusive for a standard treatment, except for transportation to Merida, cost of meals, and internet.
- Hospital: Star Medica Merida
- Procedure will be done on an outpatient basis
- Testing includes MRI, Blood tests and Doppler.

Just returned from Merida, Mexico, went through World Med Assist. Had the procedure cost was $9,860 including hotel, ballooned (10x40) right & left jugular, as well as azygos vein, they used a larger balloon (12x40) in my right Jugular, extra cost $937.75 flight from Kelowna BC $1202.07, there was no need to angioplasty my right or left vertebals. I feel like it was worth it. They are doing 12/week (3/day 4 days/week)

We're leaving for Costa Rica in 13 days for my mother who has had MS for 32 years.

We were charged $12,900 USD

This includes:
- 12 nights hotal accommodation
- 1-night stay in hospital
- Breakfasts included
- Transportation to and from hospital
- CCSVI Liberation Treatment (including unlimited blockages in both JV, Azygos, vertabral veins
- Testing prior to treatment, EKG, bloodwork, neurological evaluation Doppler US, Venography
- up to 10 rehabilitation sessions
- Daytime nurse on duty at hotel/recovery center (blood pressure, termperature, etc.)
- Follow up Doctor evaluation
- Copies of medical images and records
- 2 weeks of post-treament medication
- Complication pool coverage up to $10,000.00 USD

In the event that CCSVI is not detected, we are reimbursed the cost of the unused portion of the package (rehabilitation, angioplasty, medication costs, etc.)

Of course the package doesn't include flights for us to get there which was $2800.

We can't claim any of this on insurance, but we are sure going to look at putting these expenses against our tax returns! Shame on Canada!!!

The cost of the Liberation procedure varies widely from one doctor to another. For people to make informed decisions when selecting a doctor they need to know the price. To that end I’ve started this post. I hope others will show the price they were given from whatever sources they have investigated. Please don’t use second hand information but only numbers you received directly from the doctor’s office. Also please provide only the total cost, not just the price your insurance did not cover. Lastly I think it’s still important that we protect the identities of the doctors since the anti-CCSVI crowd would like to put them all out of business. So don’t include the doctor’s name. Just provide enough info for us to get the idea, and also the approximate date when the price was given to you.

The office of the doctor in South Bend told me the cost would be $40,000. And they didn’t know if my insurance would cover any of it. I said no thanks. That price was given to me on 9/13/2010.

I was treated in August of 2010 in South Bend and my insurance was charged almost $50,000. I have restenosed and the insurance has denied coverage, so now i am looking to pay out of pocket in Chicago.

Sorry to hear about the restenosis. I think the doc in South Bend has pretty steep prices. I bought a new car in May and it only cost $19,000. So $50k seems unreasonable for a procedure that takes only an hour or two, especially when there are other doctors who charge less than 1/4 that amount. I hope your Chicago trip works out better. Plus $2000 if stenting is required. Not $2000 per stent, but $2000 all together, no matter how many stents are placed.

They also provide the form for your insurance so you can file a claim (they do not do insurance billing, but you can send the claim yourself).

Geez, I feel so bad for all of you that must up get treated in another country ! shame on Canada and any other country or insurance company that doesn t pay for this.

I don t know what CPT codes they used for my daughter. She has a United Healthcare PPO plan through her employer. The hospital billed a higher rate ( I believe it was $17,000 ) without stents or Pre-tests. But they were paid the negotiated lower rate ( I think $ 8,000 USD). My daughter paid the $30 (thirty) dollar co-pay. This was in Sept 2010.

We were shocked but elated.

I was treated a few weeks ago by James McGuckin, MD at Vascular Access Centers in Durham, NC. Total cost of $8000 included, in my case, a one-hour phone consultation with VAC's Patient Medical Advocate Kate Fitzgerald, a twenty-minute phone conversation with Dr. McGuckin, a procedure which included balloon angioplasty of five veins, inclusion in the Hubbard Patient-Centric Registry, a Procedure Report and CD, and weekly follow-up calls from the center's RN. They cleared the procedure ahead of time with my insurance company, though I had to pay out-of-pocket (credit card accepted) due to a very high deductible on my policy. VAC told me in advance that the cost would not exceed $8900, even if stents were used. (Stents are used only if absolutely necessary.) It looked like the amounts that would have been billed to the insurance company were quite a bit higher, but I'm not sure how that would have worked.
