The flu

Post by David1949 »

My wife and I both caught the flu over the weekend. The problems started Friday night with severe stomach pain, then body aches, headaches and weakness. My wife was vomiting badly too. I don't vomit anymore. Haven't done that for many years. In my case it made my MS symptoms worse too. I probably went up one number on the EDSS scale. Walking became almost impossible. My balance was so bad I could barely stand without falling over. Saturday was the worst. Sunday was better and today is better still. The stomach is still queezy but it seems I'm slowly getting better. Walking is almost back to normal... well normal for me which is about 5.5 on the EDSS.
I'm just wondering if other people with MS have had a similar experience with the flu.

sorry to hear this david, sounds like a doozy. i have not had the flu since i got ms so i can't really commiserate. i have been sick, but it wasn't the flu i don't think. usually if i'm on top of my supplements, notably selenium and zinc, i seem to be generally able to avoid infection. sorry i don't have time to dig up a nice relevant abstract to go with that :)

When I got the flu, I thought I was dying, literally. It is 10x worse with MS.

In my case the MS symptoms became much worse with the flu. I suppose it gave me a taste of what I have to look forward to in a few years when MS becomes worse due to it's natural progression. I didn't like it much.
