Recall of coronary IVUS catheters by Boston Scientific

Post by prairie »

"Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) announced that it is voluntarily recalling all of its iCross™ Coronary Imaging Catheters used in intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging in patients who are candidates for transluminal coronary interventional procedures. "

See this for the full news story.

I don't know if this coronary catheter is used for venous IVUS applications, but never the less, it indicates that as with any procedure, IVUS imaging does have risks. My wife had an IVUS procedure and it went smoothly thankfully and I hope no one experiences the problems the article describes. I'm not trying to alarm any PwMS who is seeking CCSVI diagnosis or treatment - just awareness.

These catheters are intended to operate with Boston Scientific's ClearView Ultra™, Galaxy™, Galaxy®2 or iLab® IVUS imaging consoles.
It was a Volcano IVUS used for my procedure in Brooklyn, so no worries there...

AAC was leaning toward the Boston product. I compromised by comparing the two products. I was impressed with the vocano product and advocated strongly for it. Fortunately, i was allowed to purchase the IVUS I selected.
