Solumedrol Treatment for exacerbation

Post by ShellieFR »

10 days ago I received IV steroids for 3 days for an exacerbation that left me numb from the neck down. Since then, I haven't gotten my feeling back & I have new symptoms in my face. I am currently on day 7 of the 10 day prednisone taper....has anyone else ever had solumedrol not work immediately or quickly - I expected big changes after a week....and nothing. Still not back at work.

Shellie – Years ago I had a round of Solu-Medrol; I had NO changes as a result of it. I don't think my case was unusual – many people report no improvements with IV steroids.
My hypothesis: excess insulin (hyperinsulinemia) plays a major role in MS, as developed in my initial post: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/general-discussion-f1/topic1878.html "Insulin – Could This Be the Key?"

Thanks - I will look at your post on insulin - I do go diabetic during steroids....so you could be right! Right now, the ONLY thing I feel is hunger pangs so it's another 3 days on steroid IV for me....and I am hoping that will help get me back in action.

My first time on Solumedrol (4 years ago), it took quite a while for me to regain the feeling in my leg (which is why I was on it solumedrol in the first place). I expected it to work immediately and was disappointed that it didn't. Last summer, I had another exacerbation and the solumedrol worked almost immediately. In 2009, my MRI showed an emerging lesion, and in 2012, no new lesions. I don't know if that had anything to do with it - maybe my 2012 exacerbation wasn't as severe as 2009?
