there is no out-of-pocket max for drugs - in other words, drugs do not count towards your out-pocket maximum.

Post by its2much »

Am wondering if anyone's been able to get financial assisiatnce for Copaxone from Shared Solutions or elsewhere. Would appreciate it if they would give the details. Please private message me if you would rather respond that way.

It seems that wherever there is Medical Insurance, the cost goes up.
OK, so I'm in the UK where some of your taxes are supposed to pay for healthcare. Go to a private hospital here for anything, and the first question is "Who will pay?". As soon as you say that you yourself will pay - watch the price come down because the Med Insurance firms can be slow payers.
Copaxone in the UK costs our NHS under £7000 per year (say just over $US 10,000, and this is using a 28-day supply pack).
I have seen that the cost of Copaxone in the US is something like $4500 for a 30-day supply over the counter in (say) Walgreens.
In Canada, the cost is about $1000-$1200 for the 28-day supply, with delivery to several countries.

We have an interesting supply model here in the UK in that the hospitals prescribe, and the prescription goes to a distribution pharmacy who then deliver. This does garantee that the pack has been kept refridgerated.
In practical terms, all the time I am on Copaxone, I cannot afford to move to another country. Most of my heart meds are low cost, but Copaxone?

Anyone know/have an idea of what the cost will be in 2014? The Affordable Care Act hasn't helped me with prescription costs at all......
