Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
I just found this site of organic frozen vegetables http://www.ebfarm.com/new-frozen-vegetables
Then I called my local supermarket and asked if they have organic frozen vegetables. They did, but no Swiss chard. They are probably going to get some frozen organic swiss chard and frozen organic kale at my request.
I do have a package of frozen spinach on my desk which I will prepare shortly.
I used to have frozen spinach as a kid and it was pretty good.
In the past few years I tried canned spinach; I did not like it at all.
So, frozen spinach it will be.

Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
very good! that is really cool that they're ordering in chard and kale for you!
did you see that one spinach soup recipe posted elsewhere? i've seen a couple good reviews probably would work very nicely using frozen spinach. roughly 1:1 chicken stock and milk, whizz in the spinach with a hand blender.. season to taste and enjoy
http://www.thisisms.com/forum/undiagnos ... ml#p223022
(where the linked recipe uses a few different veg, to save labour you could probably get away with an organic low sodium veg bouillon cube, plus a little garlic and pepper)
i can't even imagine canned spinach. except as dimly remembered from old popeye cartoons. sounds nasty!

By the Way JL, the websites in your signature, http://www.whfoods.com, http://www.nutritiondata.com are really great, but somehow I keep missing them/forgetting them - maybe because they are always there in your messages and thus, don't stand out enough
Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
i agree they are fantastic, and even as highlighted, people don't seem to find the nutrient targets link on their own so often either. i do what i can.

Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
OK, so maybe no thumbs up yellow guy?
I like the rest though.
Now I've toned down even more.

Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
I know I must have mentioned this somewhere else, but this would seem the correct place to report back.
I took 100 mg zinc/4 mg copper (50/2 twice a day) for about one month. I did a 7 day washout before testing and starting the Zn/Cu and also a 7 day washout after the month of Zn/Cu supplementation then I got another serum Zn and serum Cu test.
Before
Zinc .77 mcg/mL
Copper .98 mcg/mL
After
Zinc 1.09 mcg/mL
Copper 1.03 mcg/mL
New lab results after 50/2 MWF for one month and an 8 day washout period :
Zinc 79
Copper 107
This is after taking 50mg zinc/2mg copper MWF for the last month. The zinc dropped drastically in one month, similarly to how it had risen in one month of taking 100mg/4mg every day.
The copper rose by similar amounts during both the 100/4 daily and the 50/2 MWF months (5 and 4).
If this is not clear, I can redo this post.
jimmylegs, any ideas about what is going on

Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
heya, dietarily are you still pretty heavy on the dietary legumes (and associated phytates)? if so, when it comes to zinc retention you would likely be better off introducing more brown rice, wild rice, sweet potato, and other root veg into the daily food regimen. not saying ditch the beans, just everything in moderation

---- I eat about 3 - 4 pounds (cans) of canned beans per week. Is that a lotheya, dietarily are you still pretty heavy on the dietary legumes (and associated phytates)?
So do the phytates reduce zinc, but not copper
I had Blood drawn today for Magnesium RBC.
Maybe we will be able to compare this with the serum Mg result from blood drawn on the 22nd of this month.
Re: Bloodwork - Zinc & Magnesium
whether it's a lot depends on the rest of the zinc copper picture. i definitely don't go through that many beans in a week. i imagine you have the tools to find out how much copper is provided by your bean intake, and whether it sounds like a lot compared to the RDA in general

I am looking up the copper content in the beans now.
