scared and alone

Post by helpplease »

Hi I am a 29 male I suffer from anxiety. The last two months I have been feeling very bad. I kind of want to know what you all think. I am afraid to Google symptoms. It started out feeling very weak in legs hands feet, when making a fist. I've been to doctors they all push it off to anxiety and make me seem crazy. The weakness comes and goes, lately it has been body feeling very hot, muscle twitches, mainly in calves. Vibration feeling in legs, shaky hands, if i lift my pointer fingers they shake and move lije a twitch , shaky muscles. Legs shake when bending down in a chair type of pose. Teeth feel chattery but it's not visible. I've been to my doctor multiple times have had blood work done showed him a list I wrote down with all of my sympyoms, he just tells me anxiety and wants me to go see a psychologist. He has given me Cymbalta and adivan. I have yet to take it. I don't feel panicky, my hearts not racing I do fear the symptoms I am having but It's not normal anxiety. I've dealt with anxiety for over 10 years and never felt physical symptoms before. Any help is appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. Some of your symptoms are definitely seen in MS, but they are also possible symptoms of several other illnesses, too. Have you considered consulting a neurologist?

I am in the process of setting up an appointment for a neuro. Is there anyway this could just be physical symptoms of a anxiety? The weakness comes and goes mainly when I feel anxious and pay attention to it.

Welcome to ThisIsMS. Caleb (mct814) is correct: your symptoms are consistent with many conditions, including MS; but MS is a diagnosis of exclusion, made after other more likely possibilities have been ruled out.

This website is populated by individuals, who each have our own ideas about how to address a health problem. Here are mine: Since you have been feeling bad "the last two months" and seem to be dissatisfied with your doctor, I suggest you look for a new GP, who enjoys being a "disease detective" – someone you trust and respect, someone who is compassionate and open-minded. Ask your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors – everyone you know – for recommendations; interview a doctor; then start over: review your written list of symptoms with your new doctor.

By the way, request your own copies of any blood tests done. Compare the blood work and investigation done so far with that suggested by the University of Chicago:

Blood tests

Blood tests are commonly employed to check for vitamin deficiencies, toxic elements and evidence of an abnormal immune response.

Depending on your individual situation, your doctor may request certain laboratory tests to identify potentially treatable causes for neuropathy. These include tests for:

Vitamin B12 and folate levels
Thyroid, liver and kidney functions
Vasculitis evaluation
Oral glucose tolerance test
Antibodies to nerve components (e.g., anti-MAG antibody)
Antibodies related to celiac disease
Lyme disease
HIV/AIDS
Hepatitis C and B

In my opinion (I have no medical background), anxiety may cause physical symptoms; but unless you can identify a cause for your anxiety, I think physical causes for your physical symptoms should be checked out first.

In fact, anxiety may not be the cause of any of your symptoms, but may be a symptom itself – caused by a physical problem. You say you have "dealt with anxiety for over 10 years" – do you recall any change or event 10 years ago that might've started this "anxiety?" Any accident? Any surgery, even dental surgery?

scared, I have no definite solution/answers to what your condition might be, but I will say that when I experienced these symptoms that you describe, to outsiders it did appear like anxiety and felt very scary...I recently started b complex ( without b5) and biotin (very calming) it seems to be helping me a lot....search leigh-like syndrome...
