RE PILATES THERAPY GOOD FOR M.S
Re: RE PILATES THERAPY GOOD FOR M.S
Frankly, any exercise if good therapy for those of us with MS and should not be limited to any one particular form.

Re: RE PILATES THERAPY GOOD FOR M.S
to be fair, I dont think anyone is saying dont try other forms of excercise.
Re: RE PILATES THERAPY GOOD FOR M.S
That may be true but the article specifically touts Pilates as being superior to regular exercise (but they really don't go into much detail, especially as to exactly what 'regular exercise' is.
Per the article linked to the OP's post" The patients using Pilates, however, also improved their balance, had less fatigue, and improved their scores on a cognitive test... A second analysis found that cognition and quality of life were better only in the Pilates group."
In any case, IMHO, someone with ANY chronic illness should be doing a lot more exercise than 'normal', and certainly a lot more than 'regular exercise'.

Re: RE PILATES THERAPY GOOD FOR M.S
Hi,
Back in July, Brett Drummond from MStranslate asked to film me talking about and doing Pilates. He filmed for 2 hours and interviewed me for a bit over 30 minutes.
He has put together a brief video of me doing a small sample of what I do but it doesn't represent the whole picture. Yoga makes sense as does Pilates but having lived with muscle tightness for over 20 years I can't agree that all exercise is good. We need to exercise our muscles eccentrically. We don't want to contract them. The full length video will go some way to supporting that approach. This link to MStranslates Facebook page shows only a tiny fraction of the sort of things I do.
https://www.facebook.com/MStranslate/ or here http://www.mstranslate.com.au/ms-many-s ... -benefits/
The video is called "Multiple Sclerosis and Pilates". I have also linked to it in "Beyond Avonex and Valtrex" if someone can't find it six months down the track.
Regards

Hi,
The MStranslate people published some stuff I wrote as a prelude to a long video on using Pilates for MS. It might strike a chord with someone.

Hi,
Finally the video I discussed earlier has been put up. What I'm hoping it shows is the variety of exercises and the range of difficulty you can explore from Pilates and I hope what I've said is helpful to some.
This is a link the video and this is a link to MStranslate who made it.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MStranslate/
Website: mstranslate.com.au
They have a great deal of interesting and objective posts.
I'll also re-post this in the usual "Beyond Avonex and Valtrex" post in Regimens so its a complete record of what I have said and done.
