Short Update:

Still infection, still resisting to take antibiotics (ex abx lover here), no fever and absolutely zero symptoms.

This is the longest period that I have experience an infection. Everyday I feel better and no worsening. Still taking Rebif and 300 mcg selenium daily. Plenty antioxidants to fight infection. I think it heals slowly but perfectly comfortable.

I miss GYM so bad. Once infection is over, I will have new tests.

Winter is here, take care ;)

ok consider doubling up on the 22 mg zinc picolinate for a week. as you have been, keep it away from the iron. 44mg should also be fine all at once, if not taken on an empty stomach. if not, can separate 22mg doses. but short term, do consider getting daily zinc input up closer to ~50 mg. long term, it's no good to take more than 40mg of supplemental zinc per day.

for the time being, your zinc intake will still be competing with iron.

pls consider also:

http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/med ... on-3-2011/

the whole page ^ provides balanced and worthwhile reading; a couple cherry-picked and one-sided items include:

"Oxidative stress. Iron-derived free radicals can cause a rise in inflammatory cytokine levels, especially if the ferritin level is elevated (> 500 μg/L). This cytokine rise is worrisome,as it may have acute detrimental effects on cellular homeostasis, leading to tissue injury,15 while chronically it might be related to enhanced atherosclerosis and cardiac disease.16"

"Bacterial growth. Many bacteria depend on iron for their growth; examples are Escherichia coli; Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, Salmonella, Yersinia, Listeria, and Staphylococcus species; and Haemophilus influenzae. In vitro studies have linked increased bacterial growth with increased transferrin saturation in plasma.15,19"

maybe could be an interesting experiment to give the iron a break for a week, let zinc have the field, see how you go??

Yeeeey another achievement. For the first time I did not use antibiotics for infection. It took almost 45 days. Lungs, throat, ears. I was symptom-free all the time.

Now regular regimen and gym. Tests next week. Neuro appointment on 20th. Take care ;)

congrats on toughing it out without abx! i am hoping for some clarification though.
1. what kind of infection was it? if you are in the habit of using abx to combat infection, can we assume bacterial?
2. how did you know you had an infection for 45 days (whew!) if you were asymptomatic? or do you mean you had no neuro symptoms throughout.
3. what was your final strategy/regimen to fight this latest incursion?
4. any updates on the lyme situation?

interesting. i hadn't really registered before that cough/cold symptoms can originate from both viruses and bacteria
https://www.summitmedicalgroup.com/news ... ifference/

again, glad you managed to avoid abx. sucks that it took 6 weeks though!!! did you ever end up taking a short break from iron supplements?

First of all, thank you very much everyone for your support.

My first annual MRI and it is NEDA (No evidence of disease activity). Normal atrophy, no new lesions and old lesions are smaller now. So what I do works for me ;)

Mild sinusitis and still no abx. Perfectly manageable.

Cheers, take care ;)
