Catfreak's date for the testing and intervention

Way to go Cat! We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton, the beds are super comfy and clean. They advertise you can buy their beds and bedding--!! I so appreciated that bed when I was recovering Wednesday and Thursday; it was like a big cloud of fluff.

Room service is expensive ($50 for 2) and the new Trader Joe's, which will be in walking distance to the south, is still "coming soon" (rgh!) so we got food at Safeway for the most part, but it is north a few blocks and we drove. There is food at Stanford in the cafeteria, and they even have an organic supply of things like soy yogurt and fruit cups you can get.

Since you won't have a car you might take along some thing to hold you--bagels or some such to keep in the room because there is no McDonalds or anything like that. Palo Alto is a pretty posh town.

I am happy you have an opportunity to see if this is right for you and to get evaluated. Fingers crossed!

Thanks Marie,

We will get there on Tuesday afternoon late and that bed will be a great comfort after the long plane to San Jose. I have tests Wednesday starting at 7am and see Dr Dake about 1:30. We may have a few hours of free time that afternoon, then back at the hospital at 9am Thursday for procedure. We are also staying until Saturday because I don't want to fly the day I am released from the hospital. So I can have a day to rest after the procedure.

I don't know if they will let my husband stay with me at the hospital overnight so we have the hotel room for him, if he will go to it?

I know everyone says figure out where everything is the day before, but we won't have the opportunity to do that so I just hope we can find it all.

I don't think it has really sunk in yet that I am actually going to Stanford.

Hi cat, I made our travel and lodging arrangements yesterday too. We are staying at the Sheraton too, and I don't intend to be shy about checking out the university student uni0n for food, with the help of the shuttle of course. Plus, the Cal-train station is right there, and I won't be reticent to take the train to other stops where more food choices might be more available. Students need cheap food, so they should be a good source of information about it.

Catfreak, I'm really excited for you, and I hope this will bring meaningful changes to your life.

Cat, I did not have time to check things out the day before, and I have a horrible sense of direction, and I had no problem getting around. Things are well labeled, relatively close, and people are real friendly to stop and ask.

Mormiles, the Marguerite shuttle is super easy and you are right that there are many good food options around campus and downtown. The location of Sheraton is super. I got some food at the nearby supermarket and that really made it easy for the post-surgery days.

If you use the cabs be street wise. Study the route and make them stay on it. No wild goose chases. Should be a five minute ride from the Sheraton to Stanford and cost $10 plus a tip. Very quiet in the rooms and The beads are great at the Sheraton, but a little soft for me who is used to sleeping on a thin mattress over a tilted plywood board. Cheers, Mark

Cindi, So sorry about that. If you and I ever meet, YOU can slap my forehead! I'm so envious of your short wait time...just think, you'll be watching for changes in yourself in only several days.

Cat, I had the procedure on a Wednesday and flew home that Saturday. The shuttle is called the Marguerite and it is run by Stanford and it is free. It goes in continuous loops, clockwise and counter clockwise, around campus and the medical center. There is a stop right behind the hotel at the train station. I took it, no problem, and opted for a cab for the morning of the surgery just so I didn't have to deal with anything. (I think it was $10.)
