couple questions. first im looking for a search button so i dont have to ask my second question... that being... are there any posts, threads or links to any helpful sites for going back to school? im 30 and cant afford my meds and have no education beyond high school. so i figure getting some degree would help benefit my life in more ways than one. sorry if this has been beaten to death, but i feel its a bit off topic enough that i wont get yelled at for not seeing the search button. thanks to all in advance, lee.

Lee, all I can say is exercise caution in what you say on a college/university application regarding your MS. I know this from experience. When I had my first attack, the school where I was working on my Masters degree tried their best to convince me to drop out.

I did not list my health problems on my PhD application, either. Thus when I had a relapse, all hell was to be paid and I put up with a lot of crap from my department for it. In other words, they didn't want me there because a person with MS might not finish their degree, and therefore, keeping me might not be advantageous to the school.

Like any other 'ism', they can always find another legitimate-sounding reason to drop you.

Lee, I should have also mentioned yesterday that not all universities/colleges offer medical plans to their students, and in my experience, even those with plans will not cover all medications. E.g. I had to pay for asthma medications at one university, birth control at another. I've never taken anything for MS, so I cannot comment on that specifically. Anyway, look into these things as you scope out schools.

By the way, I keep reading from time to time in the NMSS's magazine Momentum that they offer scholarships. I've never looked into it, but it might be worth checking out.

personally, i've found that the search link under modules works differently than the one at the top of the page. maybe it's just me.

i just wanted to say, that i was already in school when i had my dx attack, and the school was amazing. ms meds were not on the list of usual stuff provided by the student health insurance plan, but they said they would pay for medication for me, i still remember the woman who called me saying 'that's what we are here for'. i never got any meds mind you, but they were willing to pay while i was a full time student.

also, my professors made immense allowances for me - more than i think i should have taken advantage of. particularly in terms of deadlines >:S

they encouraged me to register with the campus office for students with disabilities and i had access to a huge array of services - again, many of which i never took advantage of, but i could have had lectures recorded on video, people taking notes for me, etc etc. i was able take advantage of the special parking.

finally, at my school there were additional awards that you could compete for when registered with the office for students with disabilities, that were not available to other students. i won a decent little chunk of cash by completing a short paper on academic perseverance (i posted about it in daily life i think lol).

Yes, the two search options seem to work differently. The one at the top of the page works with the forums while the other one in the left side bar works with the rest of the site. Another option is to use Google and include site:thisisms.com in your query.
