It sounds like that the article says: We need to keep our eyes open and not dismiss any possibilities as of yet.

We need to keep studying and not just focus on one theory. Need to see the forest through the trees

I am encouraged in that science has made quite a few advances in the last several years.

Don't I wish I had friends in high places. I do know a PH D student though who has online access to the local medical school library.

No specialists in MS there tho.

I say let the creativity begin

I think the editorial is strong enough that it will allow people to explore new and different ideas. As Niko said, open their eyes.

Finn, because you seem to be so well informed, what should we look for now in the research? Anything and everything? Or?

We should look for everything. I don't think we can afford to rule anything out. Not today.

The day will come when the cause for the disease is known. That day will be the first day towards a stop to the lousy disease. That will be a good day

Finn, I'm leaving the info on stem cell to you. Is the minocycline worth asking a neuro about? I seem to recall

that it was a 2 week treatment.

Just wanted to point you all to an article Finn published-- it's on the front page, entitled "Is it a Boomerang or what?"

Seeing the educated opinions in this thread gets us very excited about the potential of our members to pull together loose threads and come up with a unified, working theory of MS.

Shayk and Nico, thank you for your contributions to this topic as well... Shayk, it seems you are the perfect person to put together on the state of hormone-MS research today....

Hi Finn, I have been reading this thread but never jumped in. Many of these clinical trials need to be larger. For example the Esteriol{sp} trial was only done on 17 people I believe.....That's not big enough.

Also when they do double blind placebo controlled trials they put as much weight on the EDSS score as they do on the MRI....I know this for I am currently involved in a study.

I also think we have to look at the many people with MS who never had a treatment option years ago.....how has their MS progressed without a C r a b drug. Not at all saying they are perfect....but hey they are the best we have right now!

I bet many people wished they had a treatment option 20 years ago.

I also think the NMSS spends a large amount of money on trial study's of drugs. It is not just the drug company's. But it seems they are the ones with the most unlimited supply of money, that I agree with you.

They are pulling resources together to someday hopefully find a cure. Finn I believe this all lies in stem cell research. I don't know about your country, but it seems to get stalled in congress in our country.

Everyone hears stem cell and they think we want to clone people!

I am sure you have read the article here about the line of progenitor stem cells scientists have created. There are also stem cells in baby teeth and umbilical cords...WHY aren't we doing something with these stem cells.

I think this is where the mystery of MS can be solved. Take care....Kim
