heya i know it's not the whole answer but personally i can tie every situation in my blood to a lifestyle factor eg. low D coz of where i live, low b12 coz of not eating animal or fortified products for so long, ms levels of uric acid also from limited diet, low iron also from being vegetarian (and female) it just goes on and on. i just can't believe it's all a coincidence!

thanks, i know bob, it's okay i'm not beating myself up over it - just acknowledging some responsibility
guess robbie's got to have a more enjoyable regimen, he's got a much less enjoyable ms, and if you try things and they don't work, then ya, what else can ya do?

Genetics , Could it be that the way medicine has come so far and people are living longer than ever that some bad genes have been passed on that wouldn’t have been 50 years ago. Do you think this could have anything to do with the rise in anything genetic which is probably everything? Kind of like being in a fight with Mother Nature...

One day last week the news came on and one of their lead stories was about a vaccine for cancer. They said and i quote
imagine a world without cancer. Forgive me if I just don’t get it but is this vaccine not for HPV which,
An estimated 70 to 80 percent of sexually active Canadians carry the virus at some time in their life and the body's immune system usually gets rid of HPV on its own within a year or two.
The best part ,
HPV is necessary for the development of cervical changes, but it does not cause cancer by itself. No one knows for sure what else is needed for cancer to develop.
Now I’m not sure but, how this is a vaccine for cervical cancer I don’t know..
And they do come up with cures - recent vaccine for cervical cancer is a recent example.

Robbie,
The research I have read implies that you need HPV to get cervical cancer (I suppose like MS it's a genetic susceptibility with an environmental agent). If girls (age 10-12) are vaccinated they will never get HPV and should, therefore, never get cervical cancer. Much recent cancer research suggests that many cancers are the result of a virus / bacteria. EBV is associated with two uncommon cancers.
I read recently that 50 cancer drugs are coming out in the next five years. Many of the experts believe that the vast majority of cancers will become manageable conditions in the next 5-10 years i.e. you woin't die of them. Everyday there is some breakthrough e.g. identifying the genes involved.
Maybe it's time we handed over MS research to cancer researchers.

I heard today that they think that babies that are born in the summer months are less likely to develop ms because their mothers would have more vitamin d in their blood… say no more, I’m gonna go smoke a joint…

hehe no big suprised face here, robbie

but it still says "less likely" right, so there have to be multiple factors. they should call it MF instead. think of all the fun we could have with that acronym

I tried to reply to the intro forum today but just can’t seem to say the right things. When I was diagnosed my first neuro said well the good news is that it won’t kill you. As for not being alone really when it comes down to it you are alone with this, sure there is many others but when you look in the mirror it's just you or when you are having trouble putting on your socks it's just you. Nothing stops in life because you have ms, you have to get by or get left behind. It is hard to talk about this because it is directly dependent on how far along you are. I really feel for those first diagnosed with this because I know what was in my head at that time. Has ms changed the old Rob? , he is gone for good and the new one sees things different, does things different, acts different , there is nothing the same anymore.
