Hi,

Just focus on the kidneys. Foamy urine is another sign.

Hope they sort you out.

I think this could still be part of the issue because I think that is on the low side of normal? You guys are very knowledgeable about these levels so let me know if I need to take some further action in regards to my vit d.

I do take vit D3 supplements daily and have for the last few years along with vit k, vit e, epa/dha, flax/fish oil. Also take a b complex.

My b12 cobalamin was 623 pg/ml (200-1100 pg/ml).
I recently found out my grandfather on my mom's side had pernicious anemia. But my dad is adopted so I am missing half of my family medical history.

...

I'm pretty sure I posted my t3 and t4 levels earlier. They looked to be at the very low end range of normal. I've been told that even low normal can still mean deficient. Anyone care to look at those and tell me what they think?
The common range for vitamin D (25-hydroxy D) at most labs is 30-100 ng/mL (which the Endocrine Society has endorsed). It is obvious that your value of 36 ng/mL is in the low end of that range (your body may not handle your supplements efficiently). Since vitamin D is needed in every cell and in every system of the body, your low level can be affecting many functions (for example, vitamin D is crucial to thyroid function and thyroid hormones). Proper kidney function is necessary in the conversion of 25 hydroxy D (which is the bulk storage form of vitamin D) into the active hormone form of vitamin D.

I suggest that you read through the GrassrootsHealth website (http://www.GrassrootsHealth.net) for info on how and why to raise the vitamin D level.

As for "further action," I suggest you discuss the issue of raising your Vit D level with your GP.

Also, vitamin B12 deficiency can run in families (pernicious anemia is a severe B12 deficiency specifically caused by a lack of Intrinsic Factor, which is one of about 15 substances necessary for the absorption pathway of B12). Please be aware that vitamin B12 can have an adequate level in the blood (serum), but there can still be a functional deficiency in the cells/tissues.

By the way, folic acid (in vitamin B-Complex, or in commonly fortified foods) can mask a B12 deficiency. Discuss your family history and possible B12 issue with your GP (or request a referral to a hematologist or endocrinologist). Some doctors are willing to prescribe a trial therapy of methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin injections, which are more bioavailable forms (In the US, doctors' offices give injections of cyanocobalamin, the less bioavailable form.).

Thank you lyndacarol, I'm going to check out grassrootshealth and Scott1, I'll be calling my GPs nurse first thing Monday morning to inquire about the results.

I have an aunt with lupus so having glomulonephritis is a very real possibility for me I think. Confusing that everything else came back negative. Even the ultrasound on my kidneys. That was does about 3 weeks ago. I suppose it could develop rapidly?

Hi,

They need to explain the Creatinine numbers at a minimum. Don't accept that it's just one of those things.
