@ElliotB if you have never fasted you cannot make claims like you made "a diet high in good fats provides weight loss and also contributes significantly to general health, moreso than fasting ever could". That's unprofessional and misguiding.
From my experience, every Sunday I make a one day of fasting, so it's like 22.00 Saturday, whole Sunday until 8.00-10.00 Monday, ~34-36 hours. Sometimes I make 3-day fasts. And I mean real fast, with only water.
I feel very light, and calm, my head is squeezed less than on ordinary days. Also my bowels calm down. I would like to make 2-week fast but yet I don't feel prepared to it, maybe in future.
And it's true that somehow fasting encourages our body to consume itself in need of calories that we don't provide it during fasting. In Poland we have a woman, dr DÄ…browska, who treats many illnesses with her diet regime. But essentially it's more fast, than a diet because it is a modified version of Daniel's fast. I've been on her fast for 6 weeks and what I noticed was unbelievable.
My worst condition which is my chronic sinus inflammation totally gone for 6 months! I didn't have any catarrh, pain, no more sneezing, coughing, water eyes. I haven't had any infection for ~1.5 year. And I literally forced my body to have an infection after the fast because I wanted to see if it really, really works cause I couldn't believe. So I was running and walking waring short clothes on ~15 degrees hoping for at least a little cough... and no, It was impossible. Two years before diet I had big problems with my tonsils, they were very big, hurting and making me sick from time to time. During the diet my toilet visits became very easy, calm, and literally satisfying. Also my knee pains gone, my strange teeth (or more teeth nerves) pains gone. Even little piece of my flaky skin on right hand literally disappeared.
And this diet cause all the good things because of fasting amount of calorie intake. It aims for ~500 kkcal a day. So I canimagine what could happen during a real fast.
But also I have to say that 6 weeks of diet was too much for me, cause in the end I became very tired. My friend (also MSer) she told me not to go above 3-4 weeks. We, MSers, we cannot overload our body and especially brain too much.

I can only say about my experience. I hope that there will be come scientists who will like to make some experiments with fasts in various diseases. From my point of view it's a valid treatment to some.

Note that there is one thing that is common for:
- fasting,
- fast mimicking diet,
- low carb diet,
- low calorie diet (Swank etc),
- time restricted eating,
- intensive exercise

and it's called KETOSIS.
All of above seem to work for MS, I bet it's because of ketosis, it's a state when body switches to make energy from fat and starts to regenerate itself...
