I emailed the doctor in CA that was posted here about cost and this is my reply:


I work with Dr. Arata, I checked with him on the cost of the CCSVI treatment, he stated that for the MRV exam it costs approximately $1,000.00 maybe more depending on the facility, and for the CCSVI surgery it can be anywhere from approx $5,000-$50,000.00 dollars depending on facility charges as well.


I didn't find this very helpful. I don't have 50K. Why is the West Coast so much more money?

On June 16, he was batting on the right side, now he is batting on the left side. I confirmed this with the good Dr. on 6/25. I suspect he is now a switch hitter, who will mostly bat left.

I'm writing to ask if anyone knows the names of any recommended Drs (vascular?) or maybe investigational radiologists who would remove an obstructing valve in the jugular vein.

Right now, I'm near the Buffalo area. It's hard for me, but I'll travel if I must.

I just don't have a clue of who can help.

Hmmmm.. I was done on Monday 6/14. I think I'll email him to see if I can get checked. It is just a 2 hr flight for me. I live 15 min from a major airport, and the Albany Medical Center is just 15 min from their airport. I'll let you know what he says. I just gotta know whether I have this May Thurner or not cause I am still feeling no benefits, zilch.

If you have symptoms of May Thurner you can have it checked locally and insurance will pay. My Aunt had it checked on her locally this week.

Symptoms of May Thurner are: leg swelling and pain, blood clots, deep vein thrombosis

"Patients with May-Thurner syndrome are often young and middle-aged women, and they frequently present with left lower extremity swelling or pain" (http://www.ajronline.org/cgi/content/full/183/5/1523)

Dr. Zamboni has suggested it is linked more to progressive cases, not relapsing remitters. This is logical enough since it is near the spine, not the brain.

Got my procedural email from Albany today. It really seems real now!

My insurance will cover most of the costs. I am delighted!

I will be making travel arrangements today. Fortunately, I travel a lot in m line of work, so I may even be able to swing a couple of free nights at the recommended hotels.

I am so excited!

I am going to Albany next week -- cost is $3000 venogram; $2000 balloon angioplasty; $2000 stent (if needed).

Is it per balooning and per stent? I mean 2000$ times number of ballooning? What about follow up?

Just to help the people looking at time lines of calls:

Initially called on May 31st
1st followup call came back to me on June 2nd (gathering insurance info)
Still waiting on 2nd call as of Jun 30 (4 weeks later)
