Last time I checked, MS patients didn't qualify for "otherwise healthy people." I certainly don't consider myself healthy. Moreover, I don't think that anyone has died from the angioplasty procedure. One person had a stroke following a different procedure where a stent was used. However, independent doctors determined that the stroke was not caused by the insertion of the stent. This is like getting hit by a bus when you walk out of your house after eating breakfast. It would be absurd to say that you died from eating breakfast. Moreover, where are these "some patients?" The word "some" implies more than one. This is irresponsible reporting that borders on fear mongering. But doctors argue that angioplasty -- in which a tiny balloon is inserted into the affected vessels -- is not a standard intervention and the risks of the surgery on otherwise healthy people are unknown. Some MS patients treated for CCSVI in the United States have died from the procedure, according to Alberta Health Services.
