Spinal cord regeneration success in mice

US researchers have for the first time encouraged substantial regrowth in nerves controlling voluntary movement after spinal cord injury.
By manipulating an enzyme involved in cell growth, researchers were able to regenerate spinal cord nerves in mice, Nature Neuroscience reports.
It follows similar work on repairing the optic nerve to restore sight.

I don't mean to be glum, but all this animal work means that it will take ages before they even run trials in humans.
Also, it was commented that this study was on younger mice not older mice..

I saw some of this recently while visiting research labs at Cornell University. It's actually pretty amazing stuff. There's a lab a Stanford (Will Talbot's lab) that is working with nerve remyelination in zebra fish.
Alas, we're still at least a decade and a half away from seeing it approved in humans. But at least there's hope....

We just need pills to turn us into a half young mouse/half zebra fish. Anyone working on that? Teva, you listening?
