Handicapped-accessible bathroom and kitchen

Post by lyndacarol »

I caught an interesting program on HGTV last week. I am very impressed with the star, Mike Holmes; Canadians should be very proud of him and the mentioned government program that allows people's homes to be modified for physical needs. This particular episode features some very good ideas to improve accessibility -- the lower kitchen sink, the much-safer induction cooktop, side-opening oven door, and the novel idea of a rubber gasket in the shower (the floor is sloped toward the drain, but the rubber gasket offers one more bit of insurance for keeping water in the shower -- and it can easily be rolled over by a wheelchair. Why has no one ever thought of this before? How can someone contact Mike Holmes and get the particulars on this product? I think that LOTS of people could use this.) The innovations are showcased in the last 11 minutes of the program (Start at about -11:20.)

Here is the link to the episode of "Holmes on Homes": http://www.hgtv.com/video/handicap-acce ... index.html

Perhaps some of these ideas can be useful to someone here.
