Warning! Cancer after 6 months of taking Fingolimod(Gilenya)

Warning! Cancer after 6 months of taking Fingolimod (Gilenya).
Hi,
Please find attached the photographs of skin cancer caused by Fingolimod ($48,000 annually). Speed it developed left no doubt as to its malignancy. Israeli professor does not have the slightest doubt that this is a malignant skin cancer.

The reality was even worse! The cancer grew on my face in less than 3 weeks after 6 months of admission and 2 years after discontinuation of the drug. One of the stains developed a vicious, pointed cancer. It is clear to me Fingolimod is nothing but a time bomb waiting to explode! Moreover it can happen in such a short period of time. I called Novartis and informed them that they need to warn patients as soon as possible!

Here is the conversation: http://tnij.org/j8ds

In response Novartis representative referred me to an insurance agent. I find no words to describe that! It is scary how they treat us! Fortunately, Fingolimod damaged my liver, so I had to stop taking it sooner. The cancer was revealed only after 2 years since discontinuation. In just 6 months a "cure" developed into malignant cancer! Fingolimod has no action on MS, but it can easily lead to cancer.

Rici,
This post may sound crazy, but you can do your own PubMed search and find supporting documents (my fingers are having problems right now making typing difficult). In addition to any other medical treatments you might be doing, consider the following...

Cinnamon, 1 teaspoon/day (5 mL, ~ 2.9 g)
Watercress, 80g/day - contains phenylethyl isothiocyanate which inhibits angiogenesis
Saffron - contains crocin which induces apoptosis in cancer cells
Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) - rub several drops of the oil into onto any suspect lesions/moles daily, if lesions are located on skin which is normally clothed, wait 30 minutes before covering (this allows at least some of the frankincense to get absorbed into your skin)

I hope that these are helpful for you.

Really sorry this has happened. I think this is important information to have in the Gilenya thread so that people may see this is a possible side effect.

Oh Rici,

We're so sorry this has happened to you. Do you have access to an oncologist (cancer doctor) or a dermatologist (skin doctor) in your area of Poland? You won the IJV problem you had, and you'll win this problem, too. Our prayers are with you, and if there is anything you need, please let us know.

Warmest regards,
Bronek & Pam

Thank you all
&
Dr. Schelling's words:
""Re: FTY720/Fingolimod/Gilenia. Skyrocketing of disastrous side-effects of inexpedient MS (multiple sclerosis) medications has to be expected.
Attending phenomenon: The neurological community's failure of considering further data which would preclude pronouncing a diagnosis of MS will be deepened.

Dear Mr. Arlett,

The barriers preventing access to oral medications are weaker by far in comparison to parenteral ones. Particular care has thus to be taken not to admit the prescription of oral medications whose side-effects may dramatically outweigh their potential benefits.

A famous neurologist has admitted that all medications given for MS can be likened to shots given into a dense fog. This alerts to reconsidering the following fundamental precaution:
A diagnosis of MS is to be made only after having excluded each and any identifiable kind of pathological process which may result in a patient's neurological affections.
As shown in www.ms-info.net, the neurological community has as yet been reluctant to consider a solid body of evidence proving, without any shadow of doubt, that some prospective MS patient's neurological disorders are clearly central venous in origin. More and more findings of CCSVI in large numbers of MS patients will presently further underline this fact.

We expect your decision for generally admitting an oral medication of FTY720/Fingolimod/Gilenia for treating MS will pay due attention the given circumstances.

Sincerely,

Franz Schelling, M.D."

What a drag for you. Really sorry, hope you beat it. To be fair, Rici, you *are* an older guy and Israel gets a lot of sun (good for your Vitamin D). I have thought, though, there might be some link between cancer and 'MS' in that it seems to be some kind of protection. Here is another possible hint: pre-cancerous cells require only angiogenesis (happens when your collateral veins grow) to graduate.

Maybe if you're so busy making and repairing veins somewhere else you can't get it so easy. Maybe some drug vendors could be looking into this.

Is that why LDN might help both? Seems like it would be very dangerous, otherwise.

So sorry to hear this has happened to you.

Wow $48,000 per year for a drug that gives you cancer. I'll bet they don't mention that in the advertising. Glad I never took any of them.

By the way did they tell you what type of cancer it is? Basal cell, melanoma, etc. ?

Jeez, Rici, you are going through the wars. Don't forget curcumin is a good anti-cancer and anti-MS herb with countless pubmed articles on its benefits. I do hope you get over this latest setback.

MS patients & cancer

Hey there, not to sound caviler on this one b/c I do feel for you and have booked a screening for myself, but one Chief Neurologist in CA put it this way.. "watch your health and take good care of yourself... you will die not from MS but with MS and from the same things that kill most. Namely cancer & heart disease." Kind of rough to hear but good to know that we all can still keep our eyes on the real killers and know that they are not exclusive to us as the result of MS. Moreover I suspect regardless of the disease modifying agent we use we need to remember we are monkeying with out immune system and should then be extra careful and aware of changes in our bodies.
I wish you health & peace of mind in His name.

I'm a bit confused here too. You've been off Gilenya now for 2 years? (and took it for only 6 months?)--I wasn't clear about your time line. So how can a herpes infection you have now be definitively linked to a drug you took 2 years ago? Aren't there many other causes for triggering herpes including stress, poor diet, and lack of consistent sleep? The cancer 2 years later seems slightly more plausible. But then again isn't the immune system supposed to rebound after going off of Gilenya?--and apparently more quickly than Tysabri which is one of the benefits.
I wish you good health and a speedy recovery.
