Don't know what to think.. need advice.

Hi all.

My name's Randi, and I've yet to be DX (have an MRI scheduled for May), but I presented with optic neuritis in my left eye in November- my vision still hasn't returned but the pain is gone. A few days ago I developed double vision but only when I look to my left, and I noticed this evening that when looking to my left my eyes don't track together, sort of a lazy eye type thing. Is this in any way MS related? I'm really scared because I'm a painter in my free time and the double vision makes it near impossible to do this.

I'm calling my Opthamologist on Monday but I can call the hospital to speak to an on-call opthamologist tomorrow if it's an emergency (don't know if it's considered one)

If anyone has any insight or advice it would be much much appreciated.

if you cover one eye do you still have the double vision? that was one way of dealing with the double vision for me. if that works at least you'd be able to paint a little until it clears up.

hi randi, it's no fun being in limbo land :(

but, if you can use anything related to nutrition that might help you take proactive steps while you wait for the specialists' findings, i would be one of your go-to folks here at TiMS.

things like zinc, magnesium and B1 (thiamine) plus the rest of the b-complex, are some of the nutrients i have seen implicated in optic neuritis, nystagmus, etc.

welcome to the forum, i hope you find some info/support that will help you out.

So just to update in case anyone else is having the same or similar symptoms I just got back from the ophthalmologist and he said my double vision and lazy eye is left sixth nerve palsy and that it should go away on it's own- however he is trying to rush my MRI so I won't have to wait. It's looking more and more likely that I'll get my diagnosis by the end of the summer if all goes according to plan. He couldn't give me a time limit as to when it'll clear up so if anyone else has had this (the palsy) How long did it take to clear up, or if it didn't, did you get corrective surgery?

Hi Randi- I can understand your frustration. For me, visual problems have always been related to a relapse. I had Optic Neuritis 13 years ago and my then Ophthalmologist suspected it might be MS. I had an MRI, saw a retina specialist, and landed in the hospital for three days of Solu-Medrol followed by several weeks of Prednisone. The steroids helped, but it took several months before my vision was back to "normal". Also, my tests came back clean. When I was officially diagnosed three years ago, I had double vision and my right eye would not close as a result of the right side of my face being paralyzed. Went though the three days of Solu-Medrol again followed by a tapering dose of Prednisone. I think it took about two months for my vision to improve.

I hope you can get the MRI sooner than later. Do keep us posted.
