Doctor refuses ALL medications for over a year now?

If it's on your mind and it has to do with multiple sclerosis in any way, post it here.

Doctor refuses ALL medications for over a year now?

Post by colima »

I moved to Tucson, Arizona about two years ago. I was diagnosed with MS in 2006, although my symptoms began in 1997. Before moving to Tucson, I saw well known doctors in both Boston and Seattle. Previously, I was on a disease modifier, physical therapy, and Adderall for fatigue - and was doing really well. Here I am on NO medications. So far my doctor here has refused to prescribe ANYTHING at all, not even baclofen for my spasms. I am going crazy. My MS is getting worse. I am unable to accomplish anything due to the fatigue and cognitive fog. I have gained weight. The doctor complains about my weight and that I am unproductive and not constructive, but he has not helped me one iota. I am on Medicare and Medicaid, and there are very few neurologists in this town. I ended up in the ER and they referred me to two different neurologists, neither of whom took my insurance. I am ready to give up and just drive in front of a train. Does anyone know a decent neurologist in Tucson who will listen to me, respect me, not insult or dismiss me, and actually use the treatments that are available to allow me some kind of quality of life?!?!

Welcome to ThisIsMS, colima. I have never been to Tucson, and I know nothing about the neurologists there. Keep asking your questions, post them here and in other relevant forums. We have a large community here; surely someone has the information you seek. All the best to you.
My hypothesis: excess insulin (hyperinsulinemia) plays a major role in MS, as developed in my initial post: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/general-discussion-f1/topic1878.html "Insulin – Could This Be the Key?"

Do you have to see a neurologist in Tucson? Can you go to Phoenix or somewhere else, especially if there is an MS clinic?

What side of town are you on?

I realize it's several months later, but have you found a Dr. yet? I'm not sure about what insurance they take, but my neurologist is Jeannette Wendt and I'm happy there. http://nwneuro.com/Physicians/

I've heard good things about the Barrow neurological center up in Phoenix too.

What does your primary care doc, physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner think? They didn't give you a decent rec or RX?

See a different doctor. there's nothing wrong with getting a 2nd opinion, and there's nothing wrong with taking control of your health care. It's your health after all.
