Any doctor recommendations in the Charleston, SC area?

Post by surfbird »

I'm new in town and looking for a new neurologist. Anyone have any recommendations? I went to MUSC's "MS Clinic" and the doctor I saw there left A LOT to be desired. He didn't anything about Betaseron, it's side effects, didn't really give a thorough exam....he even broke the skin and made me bleed when he did the safety pin test!

Many of the neurologists in the area I've called are not accepting new patients and I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks!

Did you find someone?
The doctor we use is always late, BUT is extremely knowledgeable and has great insight into what is in the pipeline. Some great stuff coming up in the next 18 months, but did you know that 9 days ago a daily pill was released on the market that beats Rebif for performance? I did not either! It is called Aubagio by Genzyme. NO MORE SHOTS and better outcomes! :-D
Let me know if you need the Dr's name.
By the way, how are you coping with Charleston heat? It is pretty easy to trigger symptoms around here in summer.

Hi Paul,

I can help in that I can tell you MUSC's MS program is a joke and you should avoid it if possible. It is also ridiculously expensive. I am now seeing Dr. Charles Kelly at Tidewater Neurology. I like him, but his staff and office hours leave something to be desired. They have very limited office hours, don't return calls promptly, and need to be reminded constantly for outstanding items...took me about 6 weeks to get my MRI results.

Sorry I don't have a very positive recommendation but at least I can help you avoid the bad stuff :)
